It’s Messi. For me that’s beyond question.

I preferred Zidane though cos he could do everything and was nails as well.

He was beautiful to watch, as were Henry & Bergkamp.

I love watching Messi, Christiano edges it for me though because he's been a huge success in many different countries and didnt spend most of his career with one club and then moving to 2 easy leagues when his career was coming to an end. He didn't particularly impress either when he went to PSG. Taking nothing away from him though, he will always be regarded as one of the best ever

Maradona. Skill, strength, speed and a goalscorer. Carried teams on his back.

It is SO old fashioned to play with a "number 9", most goals are scored by wingers now, do you not listen to our glorious leader Speakman? Dodds underlined this yesterday by being told to say "I don't think it is necessarily a number 9 we need" :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Messi undoubtedly for me. Be surprised if we see another player as good as him in my lifetime, especially the way football is going with the whistle being blown for looking at an opposition player. Teams used to try and kick him off the pitch and he just took the piss. Loads of incredible generation talents but he’s just abnormal.

George Best. Played in an era when dangerous players could be kicked out of games with impunity and could still do it.

Same for Pele and Maradona, but Best could tackle as well.

It's hard to compare between eras as the game has changed so much, but imagine Best with modern training and protection.

Spot on. A lot of players who are average in their own era would be superstars in a different era.

Best with someone properly looking over him and a proper training regime in the modern era would be so good.

Almost said Nyron but then realised I'd have to add Paul Mcshane too and probably John Stead and the list just went on.

Just asked my dad, he said George Best was the greatest ever.

Best defender he’s seen was Charlie Hurley.

Remember when a pretty tame cross somehow bounced clear across the opposition's six yard box and Ji Dong Won ducked to get out of its way.

The closest I've felt to actual trauma watching a football game.

Pleased you mentioned some defenders, feel like they are often overlooked when people talk about the best players

They both made defending look so easy, Baresi strolled through games
