You could tell, after ten minutes, how it would pan out ... ... Millwall seem determined to play L1 football, in the Championship, and we just never improved from the warm up. Long journey home last night ... ... the only bright spot was Mags and Millwall having a pretendy fight at Central Station
cheers again RTB... hard to get motivated for games at this stage of the season with nowt to play for, guess the players feel the same way at times. rigg is getting my MotM, mainly for a very good first half, good to see evans back on the pitch though, thought ekwah could and should have done much better, held back on most tackles and never really put himself about. almost time for the 'told you so' people to announce thier return to the forum so i will get in first ( lol ) we have obviously missed a main striker who was ready to go in this league, we all knew it was a gamble but it failed big style...i could see the thought behind the way it was played out, we had a team/squad that was proving they could score goals without a striker so the young/new lads would get ample time to 'bed in', unfortunately they never really got any service so striker ready to rock must be priority this time, joined by a midfield playmaker who is different to dan neil and would allow rigg to grow. officials, well they did their best to make it into a 'join the dots' game with a stop before each move, kind of killed the game.
Players don't get their heads up and look for a central striker any more as they know there isn't anybody there. Hopefully the new manager gets a "target man" and coaches the players to play with one again.
Apologies if posted already, William is back... https://x.com/richenergyceo/status/1782048407084839074?t=U1m-uJE_lspn-Kwj9pW6bQ&s=08 Does he know where Dodds came from?
Yes he was and it also highlighted the shortcomings of Ekwah as a holding midfield player, which he definitely is not! I like Ekwah, he's a good player, but a bit of a Nancy when it comes to tackling. Dan Neil is going to be a huge miss when he eventually leaves.
You're right, he didn't. Jobe had another poor game, but so did the rest of the team. God awful, the lot of them on Saturday. Jobe is just lacking consistency, which I suppose is understandable given his age. One of the big problems with Jobe is his lack of pace, which is why he will never make it as a centre forward IMO.
Jobe has said himself he doesn't know his best position, chopping and changing positions is really difficult for a player as you need some consistency. Worse than that it affects the whole team. Very few players can do that well (which is why players like O9 are so valuable). From what I have seen his best position currently is as a striker, if he is to play in the pocket behind he needs to massively improve on attacking vision and cut out the desire to turn back as soon as he gets the ball. He will be a good player eventually if we can figure out where he should play.
He's a talented player, but,to me, always seems like he wants more time than he's actually got. Now,whether that's physical or mental, I don't know. I have wondered whether our collective expectation of him is biased owing to his brother, and we're looking for something that isn't there or isn't there yet. It may not be the same, for either him or us, if he was Jobe Smith.
I blame Dodds for a lot of things on Sat, but refusing to play Styles in his natural position (CDM) and choosing to ask Ekwah to play that role despite overwhelming evidence that he cannot is the biggest issue for me. That and playing Dack
Done my head in all season seeing Ekwah as the deepest midfielder. Mowbray tried it, didn't work. Beale tried it, didn't work. Dodds tries it, doesn't work. Did nobody at the club watch the last 10 or so games of last season when Ekwah played slightly more advanced but with the freedom to drop deep, collect the ball and drive forward? He was immense and we are hurting his development.
Ekwah just doesn't have the awareness to sniff out danger. He wants to be on the ball and running with it/beating players etc. He's absolutely unsuited to CDM but because of his size (not that he ever uses his physicality) coaches seem to think he a good choice for that position.
I wouldn't say he never uses his physicality....we've sometimes seen him use it....but it mostly seems to be when he's in possession, rather than trying to win the ball back.
