Yeah, Bury black pudding is well known but I prefer the pepperiness of the Stornoway one.
The best one I ever had was in some village in Ireland, infact possibly the best breakfast, the young lady fed us well, in the end we had to ask her to stop bringing us any more food.

Used to visit a place like that in Doolin. Was mainly known for doing charcuterie oddly enough, but they did a whopping cooked breakfast with black pudding, potato cakes etc. Proper belt buster and all cooked fresh to order.

4 of us on the way to Caherdaniel to do some diving, got off the Cork ferry around 7ish, driving for an hour or so and all getting a tad hungry, saw this little cafe in a small village on route, it was just about to open, the young girl told us the kitchen wasn't quite ready but she'd do us coffee and toast while we waited. Then she bought 4 baskets full of toast with coffee, soon after, pancakes, we never asked for but hey ho, then she put 4 warm plates in front of us and this big platter of everything you'd want on a breakfast. We dove in, then she appeared with more bacon, we had to say thanks but no thanks. Cheap as chips too.

Sounds amazing. Irish hospitality is everything it's made out to be too. Love it over there. I remember now you telling me that you're into your diving. My missus is just back from Hurghada on the Red sea, she was in her element. She mainly free dives, but she went with her sister who has all of her PADI qualifications, so they went scuba diving too. The pics looked amazing and they saw all sorts of brilliant marine life.

Unfortunately don't do it any longer, burst lung from mtb accident put pay to it.
My nephew is on a 6 month tour of Asia with his girlfriend, couple of weeks ago he sent me loads of photos of him completing his padi open water course. As a BSAC instructor, I told him, he's disowned

That must be a hard one to take having enjoyed your diving for so long. And yeah that's got to sting seeing your nephew doing that open water course.

What happened on the mtb ? I go to a bike park now and again with a group of lads who are 10-15 years younger than me. There's a lot of jumps there and they just launch themselves down the black runs. I can do them, but I'm always wary now I'm 50 that one wrong move could be crippling.

What took you out to Kentucky Smiddy ?

And I presume you mean the state, rather than the KFC down the Seven Sisters High Rd :bandit:

It was nothing technical, on the way back down, just on a wide fire track, doing about 35mph, the lad I was with, told him what to do on the final bend he did the opposite, I was just behind him, had to swerve to avoid him, hit a pothole which threw me into a ditch, hit a tree stump, over handle bars. Air ambulance into hospital, 4 broken ribs, broken collar bone, one of the ribs went into my lung. Shrewsbury hospital sent me home, they missed the broken ribs and burst lung. 2 days later went to local hospital, where I was in A&E for 4 hours, had an xray and within minutes I was put on a bed and had doctors nurses around me, put on an oxygen cylinder. 8 nights in hospital. Have come off twice since, broke my arm both times, once in the pyrenees, that was a long trip back to the car, then drove 17miles to Lourdes hospital. I do feck all more than a red now

Fukin hell man, sounds sketchy as **** that. Can't believe they didn't x-ray you after the air ambulance trip to hospital and pick up the punctured lung. I think you're best off sticking to those little blue runs with your history fella <laugh>

Worst one I had wasn't even on a trail. It was going to the shops, this was years ago back in London. Crossing a duel carriageway with a central island, I must have missed that they'd shut one side off and had traffic going both ways on one side. Checked over my right shoulder to make sure no traffic was coming and bombed out across the road, unaware that a 15t delivery truck was coming the other way. I don't remember anything about the accident, other than waking up in the road and then hearing the sirens of the ambulance. Got away fairly lightly considering. Broken leg, toes, lacerations and horrendous bruising. The truck folded my bike in half, which could have been me.

Had a few OTB's though. It's a horrible feeling when you know you're past the point of no return ....

The thing was, they did x Ray me, ****ers.

I do remember the paramedic coming up to me, just after they arrived and showed me my helmet, which was split in two, as they're designed to do, to spread the impact. He said frame that lad, it's just saved your life.

I wear a full face helmet for jumping. Seen some horrible injuries where lads have smashed their teeth out overshooting jumps. You were very lucky in that accident by the sounds of things. Although you got banged up, it could have been a lot worse.

The worst thing about my one, was because I'd been knocked unconscious and was bleeding from the head, I was nil by mouth at the hospital until I'd had a load of scans, x-rays and had my leg in plaster. I hadn't eaten for about 10 hours and was ****ing starving lol. The Dr kept saying that's a good thing you're hungry, but it ain't when you're ****ing hungry.

It wasn't until they admitted me to the ward that I could finally eat. I was vegetarian at the time and they brought round sausage, mash and gravy. I wolfed it down and then when the trolley went back, there was one spare so I had that one too <laugh>
