****, looks like an achilles tendon injury for Baz. So he's probably out for the first half of next season too.
If we get promoted and feel pressured to buy a good, proven goalkeeper that might not be a bad thing…
I really hope he’s ok and not injured too badly and in too much pain. But from a purely footballing perspective this is great for the team. I don’t know why the club stuck with him for 2 seasons when it’s been so obvious he’s not ready yet to be challenging for promotion to (or staying in) the premier league.
I feel for him and this isn’t really the time to be criticising him, but I agree. If we were to return to the PL a dependable No 1 would be first on the shopping list. Sorry Baz, wishing you a speedy recovery.
Bazunu was in The Northam End, so our defenders and midfield were still trying to pass it to him. That's why we scored three in the first half, but none in the second half
I am not a manning hater but Preston made him look very good today. They didn't seem to press our wing backs at all and gave them loads of space. Instead they had two stocky strikers up front I guess hoping for crosses which failed miserably. Still worried that Vardy is going to have a hard on for our messing about at the back.
This is mildly annoying. Bompey got promoted in 21/22 with a total of just 88 points. They went up as champions in 14/15 with just 90 points.
Excellent win last night. Bazunu injury aside, and assuming Downes was rested second half and it wasn't a knock. Then it was pretty much the perfect night. Get the job done nice and early and manage the game from there, very unsaints like! Big thanks to Preston for not bothering to turn up. Any team and manager worth their salt will press the **** out of us if we continue to play McCarthy in goal. Remains to be seen whether RM played him as a one off as he thought he would deal with being thrown in last minute better than Lumley or whether he is likely to see out the season for us between the sticks.
Well not nearly as much if he was because he was certainly providing width as a FB when we were attacking a lot of the time.
One minor point to note - last night's win has guaranteed us a top 4 finish so at the very least we've secured a home 2nd leg in the play offs.
I wish we had gone for it last night and scored 6 or 7. Our goal difference means that we will need to finish above Leeds on points - so likely will need to win that last match of the season. If we could get a couple of big wins on the way to that match then that could change...
Meh. Even if we'd won by 6 or 7 we'd still be way behind Leeds and Leicester on GD. Better to conserve energy ahead of another Saturday-Tuesday game week IMO.
