Good performance and we played very well in every department.

Looked properly balanced with a LB & RB and two central defenders. Didn't piss about once (well once maybe) with the ball in a dangerous position (I think that threw Preston). Looked good going forward as we didn't go back!!!!

 

There was a significant lack of pressing from Preston also though. We didn't need to go back.

Thought Shea Charles looked tidy and very comfortable on the ball when he came on?

Fantastic win. One of the most one sided, dominant performances I've ever seen at St Marys.

My only criticism is it should've been more than 3!!!

 

Impossible to judge Macca on tonight. 0.07xG.

Preston barely got into our half. But I would expect him to be good at championship level. He struggled at PL but this league is a significant step down.

And if it makes us go more direct and stops Martin tinkering, there could be some pros

I remember it tooooooo well!!!!

 

Hmm he got a clean sheet, but he got away with two clangers.

First half he dropped the ball right in front of goal, but just about managed to regather it.

Second half he got caught out during our traditional piss around at the back.

Arguably lucky with the first, extremely lucky with the second a better side than Preston would have taken advantage.

But as others have said maybe this will limit our risk taking at the back and that could be useful.

 

But. We got away with it...... not ideal,but we did

 

Just got back and I have to say a perfect night's work. Even the Baz injury (although I'm gutted for him) could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Nothing to do with goalkeeping ability - I simply cannot see Martin trusting McCarthy as much as Baz with the ball at his feet. Therefore he'll likely keep it simple with a proper full backs and none of this inverted fullback playing as a CM bollocks.

Good management from Martin tonight to rest Downes at HT and give Charles the 2nd half - very tidy performance from him. The first 2 goals were so well worked - the 3rd was a gift but well finished by Stu. To have the game done and dusted by HT was exactly what we would have wanted.

Now onto Cardiff!

I am a broken record on this, but his underutilisation has been one of the stranger decisions RM has taken this season for me. If Downes isn’t in he absolutely has to be there. Glad he gave him some time tonight.
