Not just that, but heing our cup keeper he has at least played a few times in the past year! I dont think there is much between them, but it is insane to not use your 2nd choice (assuming 1st is rested) keeper in the cup so they are sharp. I assumed Lumley was our 2nd choice based on that.
On the positive side, McCarthy is a better shot stopper than Baz, so what we lose in controlling the ball we might gain in McCarthy stopping a shot or two.
Maybe this confirms those rumours that McCarthy has some clause in his contract about number of games played = extra year added on to his deal. Maybe now we have so few games left he won’t hit that number so we would prefer to play him over Lumley. He was a solid enough PL keeper a few seasons ago, will be very rusty I’d imagine and obviously the playing out from the back will be hilarious. Just need to score more than them
