Smallbone was excellent today I thought. Played such a big part in the build up to his goal. Che also had a very good game. Was baffled by taking him off for Mara at the point we did, doing that along with taking Willy off just invited more pressure. Overall think we were very fortunate based on the second half. They were even more wasteful than we can be. Fantastic scenes at the end. Looked like the players and coaching staff on the bench went loopy as well.

Bednarek and Stephens are about equal in quality. Jack is more comfortable carrying it through the middle and a slightly better passer imo. Plus he's the captain. Also, we were conceding a lot of goals lately so maybe Russ felt he needed to freshen up the defence. And Bednarek didn't get a two-week rest like everyone else. Played twice for Poland. Maybe just getting his break now.
Random thing to moan about but did anyone else get annoyed by the announcement for people to vote for their MOTM on the Saints app at 80 minutes? Yeah let's literally get the crowd to disengage with the game at the point the team need them the most. Great idea that. Football in 2024 in a nutshell I suppose.
I'm on cloud nine, like the rest of you. But I'm still to be convinced that we can win-out from here. There was nothing I saw in that final hour to suggest that we can, and Martin's subs were again generally awful. Manning was the only one which worked - because, shock horror, a LB playing LB can be helpful. I had no issue with Bednarek. But I didn't like Stephens being moved into CM. Mara should never, ever come on when we're only one goal up. Never at any time, never in any game. Why can't Martin see this? Crazy that we used him. Fraser has been really poor since the international break. He's in no sort of form, and is constantly offside. Bizarre to choose him when we had two other options instead. Stu, fair enough, no fault of Martin there - on paper he should have been a good sub. Martin can't be blamed for Stu having a total stinker. But at the end of the day, WE WON! Somehow, we won. And right now, nothing else matters!
Agreed. I think it’s stupid, as was putting up the Midds 1-0 up score. I note they didn’t follow with a 1-1 Just read; Ipswich have gone top today by virtue of not winning any of their last 3 games! Everyone is ****e scared of VAR.
Almost forgot to mention but it was so poor of Fraser to be caught offside when he was just before the equaliser. No forward at this level should be getting caught offside in that situation imo.
The midfielder we needed to bring on wasn't even on the.bench, today we got fortunate with the result. But I hope he doesn't make the same mistake again, wr needed to Russell control and Charles would have done that. That being said, Up the ****ing saints.
It cost us against Boro when he was put clean through down the middle. It almost cost us against Coventry when he was put clean through down the left. And it almost cost us again today.
