Yes, Henry did "make it" but you wouldn't use it as a stick to beat him with when comparing him to another player and International caps mean little, whilst there's little argument that VDV is an excellent player.

Your point about Song breaking through to the Arsenal team at a young age is clearly mentioning his age, which has little to do with who's better, if you can't see that then it's better you stop replying.

Top tier doesn't mean that by the way but it seems like you're tailoring this definition of yours to mean "slightly above Tottenham but still includes Arsenal" so yes, he hasn't "succeeded" at a club which you believe is top tier. Although I'd be tempted to argue that if you're creating a fictional top tier it'd only include teams who put in real challenges for trophies year upon year. Again, whether this argument holds any weight depends on whether you believe Fabianski and Almunia are/have been better 'keepers than Shay Given, who has never played for a "top tier" side and by your standards failed at City.

I'll have to disagree there. I think Parker and Song are more different than Ramsey and Modric. And several clubs might want Modric but how can you say for certain he'll make it at those clubs. Several big clubs wanted Parker too when he was at Charlton. So I think using the method you seem to be using to compare Song and Parker, you'll have to think Ramsey is better than Modric.

Oh dear, I'm speechless. Where do I start?

You've referenced Arsenal currently being a top tier team, when they are a clear level below the best teams in the PL and in Europe, there's no evidence to suggest otherwise when you look at their recent league and cup runs. You've simply created a definition to include them.

Arsenal a "top tier"(have you found out the proper definition yet?) team had Almunia and then Fabianski as their first choice keepers, did that make them better than Given? Of course the best players tend to gravitate towards the top but it's no sort of rule, just as there are horridly out of place players in these top teams. The teams they play for don't define how good they are, you could say the same for the whole Arsenal team to argue that they're better than Spurs but it doesn't make it true.

"Over the last 4-5 years, when Parker has been at his peak, it has again been Arsenal, Man Utd, and Chelsea who have all consistently made the top places and put in title challenges." - Really?!

Oh nevermind this is a waste of everyone's time....

Am I writing this right? Can anyone else see the point I'm attempting to illustrate?

  14. Pedantry is a dying art. I think it is up to us on the Spurs board to keep it alive.

  16. I have noticed, my friend. Your work is highly commendable. I'd like to be pedantic and say that you're too soft on the Gooner wums who frequent this board, but I think that would be unfair.

  17. I saw that. It's bound to happen. I am forever going back and editing my posts (being the pedant I am) to correct spelling mistakes or errors of grammar, made as a result of thinking faster than I can type. That Jayram can take such delight in your mistake is a testament to the infrequency with which you fall into error, my friend. It's a backhanded compliment. I certainly would not see any disgrace in the matter. After all, he's the idiot who persists in using a quote of mine in his signature, where I speak in terms us being better than 'Pool and more than a match for Chelsea for 3rd. Well, week 13 has come and gone, and he hasn't been able to gainsay me, and that's even without 'Pool having played today <laugh>

So, I really wouldn't worry about it.

It only really applies when things are really close. I mentioned before the City game that even if you lost your next 3 games and you'd still only be a maximum of 3 points off other top 4 candidates. Now that's a good start no matter how you look at it and given you are in an even stronger position, only a fool would continue to write you off.

Congrats on the point yesterday, by the way <ok>

Fair enough. I cannot argue with that.

By the way, for what it's worth, my use of your quote in my signature is purely because I found what you said very funny. When us Spurs fans talk about a "North London Power-Shift" we do it with tongue in cheek, and usually as bait for one of you fellows to get all hot and bothered about it. I think it was your sheer and utter frustration that amused me, not because I enjoyed your pain as such, but because I had every empathy with it, having suffered those very same agonies for so many seasons with Spurs. Having said all that, I do think you were right, that there is now a gap between our clubs that you must strive to close. However, you've got to be a lot happier with the way you are playing now, compared with your first 4 or 5 games?
