Two massive results tonight and two very l8ve ties going to second legs. Hopefully someone slips this weekend due to one eye on second legs
Beat me to it. Gonna say neither team can think about resting players 2nd leg and hopefully some of them might be thinking about the games next (and beyond)
Well the ref in the arsenal Bayern game won’t be getting any champ league matches anytime soon. How has he not given a pen for handball and then come out and claimed it was a kids mistake from the arsenal defender and therefor he won’t give a pen for that in a CL QF is absolutely bonkers. Arsenal got away with one there massively
I mean i kind of understand his logic on some level, but I completely diisagree with it. He's a professional footballer, not Hollie Steele on Britain's got talent.
Not only that but what was var doing? You could maybe understand the ref not quite realising what has happened (although he apparently admitted to Bayern players and TT he saw it) but var should be going hold on, this is a silly one but it’s a pen and we need to intervene as clear error
Because people, and organizations make mistakes. As we've seen time and time again in the Premier League. Teams will be unfairly punished at times and there needs to be an organized way to handle their protests. Without an appeal process there will be lawsuits and dirty laundry aired in the newspapers galore. It will damage the sport. I don't think it should be a frivolous thing where legitimate punishments just go to get lightened... It should be for if the PL legitimately made a mistake or new evidence come to light. If you appeal and you're in the wrong the punishment on you should become harsher to prevent frivolous appeals.
Just had a look at it on YouTube. Absolutely incredible. Had it been the other way around, you can bet that the Arsenal players would have surrounded the referee with Odegaard waving both arms in customary fashion, demanding a penalty. I can't understand the Bayern players not making some sort of approach to the referee. We know that referees take notice of player's reactions in some situations because they've admitted it.
True, but you can't appeal against everything - either in football or in real life. What can be open to appeal is judged on various factors - the degree of harm caused by an incorrect decision, the possible doubt over the accuracy or legitimacy of the judgement, and the practicality of an appeal process amongst those factors. In this case, no-one's going to die, the rules are clear enough, and an appeal process just drags out the whole thing and prolongs uncertainty for the club and those innocent clubs affected by it. The only problem is that punishments are not clearly laid out, and that needs to be addressed because it gives cause for appeal. Eliminate that and what basis is there for an appeal? It's simple enough isn't it? - the rules are clear, don't break 'em.
Rodri says he's knackered. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68777068 Expect City to rest players against Luton
anything could now happen "in general" City should beat real. Real's best chance was at home. However real at that way inclinded thatthey can park a bus as well Arsenal could do anything away. They could fold like a cheap deckchair but bayern could too. this game decides the domestic title imo. If arsenal lose they have no more distractions. Barca should progress. They are upagasint a bad opponent at home. Atletico have the lead but its narrow and dortmund are more than capable at home. Whenever atletico have a lead they can **** house it.
If I had to bet I’d say City Bayern Barca Atletico to progress but could easily see Madrid arsenal and Dortmund go through. Think psg are prob weakest position being 1 down away from home and just not having a very good team
Not that they'd be my choice but it could be Atletico's year. A season of surprise winners after we win the league.
That's my feeling too. They should've buried the tie last night though, especially as their away form could trip them up.
