Yeah, she said something about penalties. I suggested that if the ref had booked players for diving the game would have been abandoned.

Andy’s Player Ratings: Leeds 0-0 Sunderland - Resilient mackems throw a spanner in the works
Promotion hopefuls Leeds weren’t able to beat a defensively resilient Sunderland side, drawing 0-0 at Elland Road. Here’s how Andy rated the Lads…

    Anthony Patterson: 7/10
Protected really well by the defence, leaving him with very little to do outside of defending set pieces which he did well. Came out quickly one to clear after an under-hit Hume pass.

    Timothee Pembele: 7/10
Good game for Pembele, provided a little bit of thrust down the right hand side, with one great first half cross just too high for Clarke, and showed a good turn of speed in behind to get in front of Summerville when the winger had got past Ballard.

    Trai Hume: 6/10
Defended well, leaving Summerville no room to work in but also had a couple of sloppy bits of play that could have cost us. An under-hit pass to Patterson that the goalkeeper had to be alert for and then dived in to intercept a pass but completely missed, leading to Ballard needing to block a shot.

    Dan Ballard: 8/10
Had a really good battle with Bamford all night and didn’t give the striker a sniff, overly keen at times and got booked as a result but always in the right place.

    Luke O’Nien (C): 8/10
Like Ballard didn’t give Leeds a chance and cleared anything that came his way, including a late flick over from a dangerous shot from range, did get away with a clear handball but who cares?

    Callum Styles: 7/10
His best game in a Sunderland shirt, kept Dan James quiet and looked comfortable all game. Won the ball on the half way line at one point, played a one-two with Jobe and played in Clarke with a nice first time pass.

    Dan Neil: 7/10
Not a game where he got the chance to impress on the ball but worked hard defensively to provide cover for the defence.

    Pierre Ekwah: 7/10
Put in a shift in the middle of the park, closing down Leeds players constantly and giving them no room to work in.

    Chris Rigg: 6/10
Neat on the ball but not many chances to impress in possession but did a good job for the team.

    Jack Clarke: 6/10
Headed just over from a Pembele cross in the first half and had a burst into the box to force the goalkeeper into a save, had one really good chance to cross for Roberts but was well blocked. Otherwise a quiet game as he did a job for the team.

    Jobe Bellingham: 6/10
Kept the centre-halves occupied and dropped into midfield to provide cover but couldn’t make the ball stick up top.

    Substitutes
    Patrick Roberts: 6/10

Came on for Rigg with plenty of time left on the clock but barely got a kick, did test the goalkeeper with a free kick though.

    Aji Alese: 6/10
Came on for the tiring Pembele and looked comfortable on the left of a back three.

    Luis Hemir: N/A
A very late substitute as we looked to waste time.

Man of the Match: Dan Ballard
He was a bit more erratic than you’d want from a centre-half, with his battles with Bamford risking a second yellow but he snuffed out the striker and barely gave him a kick.

I don’t mind him. Been listening to the podcast with Joe Wilkinson. Comes across as a down to earth bloke just cracking on with it.

Not in a band like tonight bough. I have seen nothing of Hemir that tells me he would work for the shirt except one 20 minute cameo. Rest of the time he’s looked so lazy.

Think we needed Jobe filling that midfield line without the ball. That foul he committed showed his desire to keep the clean sheet. Think that was more important tonight.

Had it been against Huddersfield or Sheff Wed etc. then I absolutely don’t think that role would be right for Jobe.

That said, he was excellent on Good Friday!!

Funny how football supporters think that a failure to score in 93 mins almost guarantees the ability to score in 95 or 96 mins

    cheers again RTB...

well, i was not looking forward to this one but in the end we could easily have nicked all three, referee was sh1te but at least it was for both teams and we finally, finally got a little bit of luck from the man in the middle.

dan neil was perfect that first half, plenty of tackles and good use of the ball, unfortunately, ekwah and jobe did not 'get up to speed', rigg is making good use of his game time now with decent performances...big difference in the team when clarke is playing as well, onien, love the lad and he would be first name on the sheet for me but ffs i wish he could control himself in the box.

would love to see a settled side rather than all the swapping and changing but it does seem to be dodd's 'style', great when it works of course.

nowt else to add really, getting some better performances now, shame we are so close to end of season.

dan neil gets my MotM, some excellent work especially in the first half that really had the home fans groaning.

We’ve got the foundations of a decent team. Looking forward to a great managerial appointment, a few quality additions and a cracking next season.

Not sure why some use the limited footballer comment, he is a very good player, composed on the ball and 1 of our best passers of the ball

    Exactly this.

Similar to those who say he isn't a central defender. He is.

Farke mentions “2 clear hand balls”. Yet not a soul wanted a penalty for the first one. Nobody claimed, nobody argued, nothing. Not from Farke or his staff or the players or fans.

so explain how it was a “clear” handball? It was a handball, but obviously not that clear as nobody knew it was!!

i think he looked well lean and sharp tonight tbh even tho he only got a couple mins. We need someone who will keep there defenders closer to there own goal jobe as much as I like him just doesn’t do that.

thought we played well got up at 02:30 this morning to watch and enjoyed it well as much as you can for a 0-0. For my 10p worth I thought we looked solid enough and we nullified their main threats quite well.
I don't get the Patrick Roberts stuff sometimes as he is a very skilled player with one of the best first touches I have seen for a long time, end product is not what it should be but support on the wings can help with that (look at him and Amad) I think he has almost everything to be a top player except pace, if he was as quick as Somerville then he would be plying his trade in the premier league.
Dan Neil was my MOTM but think Ballard was a close second.
As a team we are lacking the adventurous spirit and youthful exuberance we showed last season but I still think it is there and waiting to explode again with the right head coach.
All in all really happy with a draw and with a bit of luck we can get a couple of morale boosting victories before the end of the season to take into the Summer and whet the players appetites for next year.

Thought he could have a come on a tad earlier, Jobe had worked his socks off and was clearly knackered

O9 has turned into a good championship cb, does he make mistakes - yes but so does the majority of cbs in this league (thats why they are playing in the championship and not the PL).

I agree with your comments about him not being a limited footballer part, he def isnt a limited footballer - he has a good passing range, a cracking 1st touch and limited players strugglr to play multiple positions well like he does

Thought he was class tonight, made a couple of mistakes but he wasnt punished for these those. Ballard, who is a top 3 cb in the league for me, made just as many mistakes as o9 but hes not been refered to as a limited footballer or that he doesnt have the nouse of a cb.
