The planet earth is about 4.5 billion years old, trying to formulate changing weather patterns when we only have the last 150 ish years of accurate messuring is like trying to diagnose and predict the health and life span of a human because he or she has just coughed once. I should add that it goes without saying that we need to look after the place.
While a decrease in emissions of 7% is unprecedented, it still means that 93% of our normal emissions went into the atmosphere and carbon dioxide levels continued to build up. A bit like filling a bathtub – we slowed the flow from the taps very slightly, but the water level continues to rise (Met Office).
Well it's not 'unprecedented' for a kick off, and that's before even bothering with the rest of that quote.

Fairly sure the uk does not count aircraft or ship emissions in its calculations, and i think that is a worldwide thing. So it's likely the total reduction was much more than 7%.
I appreciate they're liable to compare like for like against their normal assessments, but the methodology is surprisingly crude and based on generic emission factors and estimated activities. There will be a huge uncertainty associated with any estimates.
It's like economics. When you actually look into the "forecasts" there's an incredible number of assumptions used. That's why the forecasts are wildly inaccurate.
Or by predicting the amount of deaths in a pandemic and basing your whole response for the next 2 years on that one predication !
Like the weather forecasts where we were told for weeks the “exact date” that a polar vortex, snow bomb or thunder snow (remember the days where we just had snow.) was going to cover the country in snow which never arrived.
I think you have missed my point, when all countries submit their own emissions to the worldwide authorities international flights and shipping are not included. They go under a separate category like military emissions.
I met a Finnish girl who was on holiday in London and we went on a date. She phoned me up and invited me to Finland for her small birthday party.
