I agree the wages will be the biggest problem. We need to get smarter with some signings more under the radar although they might not hit the ground running so will take time. I’ve always thought it would take time anyway so as long as we see progress most seasons that’s fine.
Bruno, Botman, Isak, Gordon and Tonali were all bigger than anticipated. We just don't sign them all in the same window, but I'd expect 2 big signings then a few squad builders. Salary is a big indicator, so if as you say Chiesa's expecting to get £200kpw he isn't coming here. With that in mind we'll probably look to the lower ends of the PL, Championship, Germany and France.
They can just bring Minteh here and buy defenders which is the problem more than anything else. This side has the most pedestrian back line you'll find anywhere at the moment and Botman is a finished player for a good year or more.
I don't disagree, mate. I think Barnes/Gordon is our strongest wing line up, and with cover in Minteh, Anderson, even Willock, Joelinton and potentially just keep Murphy (as he's likely got less sell on value than Almiron) we should be ok. LB and RCB is the most urgent. I suspect they'll just get Kelly in for free at LB. That in itself could leave space for a quality CB, GK and younger striker. Then we're reasonably well set.
If they can sell longstaff and get a capable player that would be a step forward. I think we're all keen to see the underbelly of **** removed. The Ritchies Dummetts longstaffs krafths Murphys and lacselles should be replaced this summer.
I suspect Longstaff is here for a while with UEFA rules etc and we may well still see most if not all of Laschelles, Krafth and Murphy for at least one more season.
Once they've sold Guimareas they'll be under that. Player sales like I've always said would come into things.
Ruben Amorim sadly off to manage Liverpool. Was also being courted by Barca, so way outside of our scope right now - although it's all moot as Eddie is clearly here for another season or more.
The I have us interested in Tosin Adarbaiyo (sp) and Lloyd Crappy (sp) from Fulham and B'mth respectively. Our UCL "success", Adidas/Sela deals paving the way for two free agents. Watch out, City, here we come. Oh and we're also looking at a PSV midfielder who plays as a "creative 6". Y'know, the same position as Bruno. And Tonali.
