The next edition of one of the most anticipated golf tournaments in the golfing calendar takes place this week, The Masters, and with it one of the most iconic pieces of clothing that any golfer would like to possess, the famous Green Jacket. With holes such as Flowering Peach, Juniper and Golden Bell, it is a golfing tournament unlike any other on the golfing world tour, and with that, it seems to bring it's own drama, upsets and fairy tale endings. Who can forget Jordan Spieth throwing it away at the 12th for Danny Willett to claim the title in 2016, the re-emergence of the great Tiger Woods in 2019 or the car crash of a round Rory McIlroy had back in 2011.

So, who is likely to be putting on the green jacket come Sunday night...?? Well if you go by the bookies Scottie Scheffler, he of the slippy shoes that he must play in, his feet dance all over the place when he hits his shots, is as short as 4/1, (i thing Tiger was 7/2 once, which is the shortest I've seen anyone for this tournament) But that is just Gaga Land if your taking that price. Rory is around the 10's mark but again your taking it on trust that he can get the job done, something I think he will, but he's starting to run out of time me thinks...??

So, here are some that I think will do a half decent job and bring us something back from our investment...

    Matt Fitzpatrick @ 33/1
A tied 10th place finish last year with two sub par rounds added to two rounds to par shows that he knows how to get round the course without getting in to too much trouble, definitely a big plus round here. A very consistent golfer, who shot no worse than 69 at the Players recently is in very good nick this year.

    Colin Morikawa @ 40/1
Tied 10th in 2023, T3rd the year before, five of his eight rounds sub par, -5 under for his last round when finishing 5 shots behind the runaway winner Scottie Scheffler last year. He hasnt exactly set the world on fire this season, but make no doubt about it, he can play this course, and it might just bring his game back to life...

    Cameron Young @ 45/1
A player, who finished T7th last year, comes here on the back of a 2nd placed finish at the Valspar, with two more top 10 finishes to his name as well this season. His stats for approaching the green and accuracy give him a good chance of repeating his top 10 finish last year..

    Russell Henley @ 66/1
With a T4th finish last year, three of his fours rounds sub par, his best finish in this tournament, he has three top 10 finishes this season, which has seen him have great stats in putting department, scrambling and approach shots, all of which will help around Augusta...

    Brian Harman @ 66/1
He has become my go to golfer since his Open win last year, where i just think that all of the bookies just get his price wrong for the majority of his tournaments. Yes, he isnt a big driver of a ball, but his iron play and putting, especially his putting give him a great chance...

    Sung-Jae Im @ 70/1
A third place finish back in 2021, all four rounds sub par, T8th in 2022 and T16th last year, he is certainly got what it takes to get around this course, and if he gets things going for him will surely finish top 10 at worst...

So with all that above, the four i have gone with are Matt Fitzpatrick, Russell Henley, Brian Harman & Sung-Jae Im

Good luck to all who are playing...<cheers><ok>

I was just reading back on last years comments as you put this up Red!
Harman had 4 very consistent days at Liverpool in the Open and to adapt to those God awful conditions on the Sunday proved what a great competitor he is.
I still enjoy Shane Lowry’s cavalier approach and would love to see him in the mix. Finally I have a couple of friends named Chris Kirk and Denis McCarthy so a couple of quid on their namesakes at big prices to enhance the weekend’s viewing!

Golf….one of the worst betting opportunities on earth.
    I’ll go with Hideki Matsuyama @ 20/1.
He’s been slowly coming into form and played well at the Valero last week.

    A few for me.

Xander Schauffelle 16/1. Outright with skybet hotshots market free £1 bet for every birdie in round one.

The rest all Ew 12 places.

    Cameron Young 30/1
    Tyrell Hatton 40/1
    Keegan Bradley 110/1
    Tiger Woods 80/1
(I know stupid but whilst he's still playing and a silly price I can't not cover him)
And talking of silly my last one is good old Vijay Singh at 1250/1!

Did you watch the Valero last week?
McCarthy and Bhatia’ s fantastic finish. How on earth do you have a four shot lead into the last round, shoot 67, but have to sink a 12 foot putt to get into the play off?
Ask Bhatia after Dennis McCarthy birdied 8 of the last nine holes.
One of the best last rounds you’ll ever see.

I like Morikawa, but his iron play and putting have been awful so far this season, for someone with his iron play credentials, something must've gone seriously awry somewhere. I can't understand why Hovland decided to alter his swing this season, his brain must've collapsed ! Was playing better than anyone in the world at the end of last season, ****ing utterly ludicrous decision. Scottie is playing the best golf consistently since Tiger, bloke's just playing unreal. If he putts well, he wins, end of. Number 1 in every other department. 4/1 a joke though for this so no thanks. The weather is meant to be horrific on Thursday which will probably mean at least half the field will have to play 36 holes on Friday. Those players will be absolutely shattered come the weekend, so the draw could play a big part in this. Mcilroy is just so sloppy on some short putts, will probably go close again but at 10/1 , still too short and Rahm hoping to only become the 4th player to defend after winning for the 1st time doesn't appeal now he's on the LIV Tour. Alot of ****ters in this that I just can't ever seeing being good enough to win a Major, some real chokers in there. I also like Harman and had him at good odds when 2nd in the recent players. He's steady along the lines of Zach Johnson, and at 66/1 I've had a few bob each way. Another of my favourites who's done me proud since hitting the Tour is Wyndham Clark, who won me handsomely in last years US Open, and who I had again when blowing the 36 hole lead in The Players to finish 2nd with Harman behind Scheffler. However , Clark didn't bottle it imo, he just played poorly last 2 rounds (Schauffele did bottle it), yet still birdied 16 and 17 and lipped out on the last which would've forced a play off. First time here, big big ask, but this guy's has a special mentality. 33/1 will do for me. Aberg is gonna be a monster at some stage but just can't see him winning here just yet, but guaranteed in the future. Now taking the weather into account I've also down 2 players who play well in grim conditions and are both on the LIV Tour, Niemann at 28/1 is in terrific form and has been trending well recently, he has the game it's just whether the temperament stands up once he gets into contention late on a Sunday in a major. Cam Smith is used to windy conditions from growing up playing them in Australia. I thought he was gonna dominate after winning that 1st major, but he went off to LIV and has fallen off the face of the earth regarding wins. However he's played well here before and I think he can go close this week. They'll be no worries over bottle should he be thereabouts on Sunday evening. 28/1, is too tempting to pass up ! Finally I've had a little each way on a forgotten player Si Woo Kim, who has come back into some form over the last year. At 100/1 , he could quite easily keep the resurgence up and go very nicely. All with Paddy Power, paying 10 places. Good luck to all, should be great viewing as usual

It's not that i don't rate his chances stick, its just the price, 16's is a bit skinny for me. I also like Niemann, and he's around 20/1 mark, but the e/w return dosnt get your money back... Good luck all the same, he'll deffo give you a run for your money...<ok>

I backed him at 25s mate halfway through the Texas. Ridiculously in a double with Vannilier for the National.
