Another one to file under the “not a classic but a win’s a win” folder. Don’t think anyone really excelled. Van de Ven probably the best starter and Bentancur and Hojbjerg made good impacts in the second half but no one with a real a standout MOTM performance. Need to go up a gear or two at Toon that’s for sure.
As much as we give him stick, Werner was very, very good and our best attacker by a mile. I'd sooner keep him in the squad than either of Solomon or Gil.
His return is certainly better than the latter although the former I think hasn't enough games for that judgement. Werner has created a fair few goals and chances - and if he was to start scoring a few I'd definitely agree with you.
Remember when Gil said in January he wanted to stay and fight for his place? Don't think he's been in the matchday squad since
True, and if I were rich, famous, handsome and had a massive cock, I’d probably be able to pull Margot Robbie or Ana de Armas.
He's played 4 minutes since the Jan window closed, in the draw at Everton. Was an unused sub in the defeat to Wolves. Hasn't been seen since.
Jokes aside, I certainly wouldn't want him as a regular in the starting XI, but as an option off the bench or to cover for injuries, we'll be hard pressed to find a better option for the rumoured £14m price tag. I think it's just fashionable to mock him. He's done far more than Kulusevski this season and he's only been here for half of it.
That seems to be the common thing said on social media: “we won’t sign a better player than him for £15m” which may or may not be true but then that just means we need to spend £20m or £30m. We need players that are going to actively push for a starting spot. Werner’s only playing because the likes of Kulu are massively underperforming. As harsh and blunt as this may sound, if you or anyone wants Spurs to push on under Ange, Timo Werner is not a player that’ll help do that.
No sadly I can recall at least 2 that were even worse. I'd call the overall performance 'adequate' winning was the minimum requirement and we did that, playing like that will not win us matches V the top 3 so we need to make sure that get points in all the other games. VDV was excellent and a great goal to boot the 2 HT subs made a big difference.
Right now, the priority in attack is to spend big money on upgrading our pigeon into another eagle. That will allow us to move Son back to his strongest position, which will in turn shift Werner to the bench. I've got absolutely nothing against doing that, nor do I see the point in huge money on two positions when we don't need to. Unless you agree with me that we need to think about a long term Son successor sooner rather than later?
Keane and Redknapp spot on about Yates. He gives it and then cries like a baby. Karma would have been him getting a yellow and sent off for that
No as we won’t be able to get a long term replacement for Son just like we didn’t for Kane. But we need better players than Richarlison and Werner if we want to be serious and really push on. Chelsea knew Werner wasn’t the answer, as did Leipzig, we should as well.
He had a solid game, if VDV could give him some tips on finishing he could be worth signing in the close season
