looks like salford were in a bad mood today. they've lost 0-1 at afc wimbledon. salford had six players yellow-carded in the first half and a seventh in the second half. in added time, one of those on a yellow earned another and a walk and another received a straight red, meaning a total of 9 cards for 8 players. afc wimbledon received a yellow in the second half and a second in added time. in scotland, meanwhile, several teams - kelty hearts, cove rangers, bonnyrigg rose, and spartans - have snuck into the scottish league without anyone telling me. as for long-time league clubs no longer in the league, brechin now top the highland league, despite losing today, while albion rovers, berwick, cowdenbeath, and east stirlingshire are achieving mediocrity in the lowland league. clyde were heading for one of these lower leagues until they their win today, beating stranraer and depositing them instead in pole drop position. one point separates the relegation hopefuls at the chair level of the league. at the top of that division, stenhousemuir sit 13 points clear, but the fact they've drawn their last five games (and 7 of their last 9) suggests complacency might be sneaking in. the two games they didn't draw were both against teams currently in the bottom three - a 1-0 win at bonnyrigg rose and bizarrely a 1-6 home stuffing by this morning's bottom club clyde. looks like clyde were miles adrift at the bottom before today as they've taken 16 points from their last 9 games, having previously taken 15 from their first 23. so today they've achieved something they've been chasing all season.
turns out they're from bonnyrigg, which is about 8 miles south of edinburgh and has a population around 15,000. the club was formed in 1881 (!!) and they won the lowland league in 2022, thereby gaining automatic promotion to the sfl. they play in red and white hoops. in the 2017-17 sfa cup, they knocked out second-flight dumbarton after a replay.
Gateshead got to their 3rd FA trophy final by beating Robbie Savage's Macc today. Their second final appearance in successive seasons. They could still finish 3rd in the conference too, which would mean a single home game playoff to make it their second Wembley appearance this year. Wouldn't back them not to do it either. Ex-City Greg Olley is currently their captain. Our own Matty Jacob was pivotal in their 6th tier 21/22 national league north title win on loan from our academy. The same level Scunny are at now.
Hate Man Utd. Hate Liverpool. But for the title I’m ’anybody but Liverpool’ so critical support for the Red Devil underdogs.
As a fully paid up member of the anti “ let’s do it for Klopp” it’s been a decent weekend. The ****e I’ve had to put up with from non Liverpool based “fans”. I actually like Klopp however Liverpool winning the league through sentiment is no more important than a fan who follows their team through real depths of despair that we and others really understand. **** em. Life’s not a fairy tail.
It was the Turkish Super Cup Final last night, Fenerbahce fielded their U19's, who allowed Galatasaray to score in the first minute, then walked off the pitch conceding the game. The Cup was awarded to Galatasaray within four minutes of kickoff. All of this as a protest protest against the League's handling of the riot in Trabzonspor which saw their players attacked. Turkish football seems to be in a right mess.
