Only consolation about today's results is, it keeps Hull and Coventry in with a chance of 6th, so hopefully still all to play for when they play Ipswich. The FA Cup could be a distraction for Coventry though.
What a great day for me and Eire. Willing on promotion because it is what we should want but quietly loving the fact we have lost (rather than won) one in the last 16 games. Come on guys, that is a third of the season loving every week and it was actually a really good game today, apart from the result but, hey, if we win them all, we’ll be battered most weeks next year. Of course, I don’t mean I wanted us to lose but… the grass isn’t always greener. I hate some of the abuse Paddy (Barndoor to many) gets because he is one of ours but, yes, after today, Joseph has to step in now. Sublime touch when Piroe should have equalised and an all round nuisance. Oh, and, never, ever thought I would say this but…. Firpo was probably our best player today
Agreed with all that except the great game today. I found it tedious. You have to question if that team today was in pl how many games would we win. Not a lot. It’s obvious if we do get promotion very few of current squad will make the step up. The rebuild required will be huge and how that’s achieved under current ffp rules is beyond my pay scale
I've got to say that a bad result has been on the cards for a while. The last time I came away after watching Leeds thinking we played really really well was Swansea away in mid February. We've had alot of solid professional performances but it's been a while since we just blew a team away over 90 minutes.
We may aswell stop promotions then, going to be the same for whoever goes up. The 49ers have said if we go up,there will have to be big investment in the squad. Teams that go up, just need to try and establish themselves and slowly start to climb the table season after season, this season the 3 that went up look likely to be relegated, the season before non of the 3 were.
I know but how many who’ve gone up in recent years. Vast vast majority have failed and been mauled in the process
The only reason we’re enjoying this season is because we spent three seasons in the PL and are now enjoying the parachute payments. It’s absolute nonsense to assume the football is better in this division without the parachute payments and the advantage it gives you with the players you can afford. If we don’t go up, see if you enjoy next season without Rutter, Summerville, Gnonto, Gruev, Ampadu, Gray and Rodon. See if it’s as fun with the loan rats tying up another season of dead money
Who’s to say any of this mentioned players will be up to pl standard. Nobody knows as they’ve barely played in it. I suspect some won’t be up to it. Hopefully we get to see for all you’re sakes
That comes across as quite angry Rich, but, tbf Ipswich haven’t enjoyed the same benefits so it’s not necessarily the end of the world. You know, the same Ipswich you have confidently predicted would fall away since the first ball was kicked
@ristac is right. It's all fun and games in the Championship when you're the bully with the money to buy everyone else's players. It's not so much fun when the likes of Burnley, Bournemouth, Leicester and even little Ipswich that come every summer and steal the best players in the league. Some fans have short memories and have forgotten the ****e boring seasons finishing 15th every year. Bielsas don't just appear out of nowhere to work miracles every time you need a new manager. For every Bielsa or McKenna there are a hundred Monks, Warnocks, Christensens, McDermotts etc.
Thing is I enjoyed the league one experience at least as much as the premier bs But that’s just me and I know not everyone’s ideal idea. I don’t give a **** what division were in once we’ve eleven lads on pitch playing for the shirt. That’s all that matters. Who cares if that player cost 50m or 50k
I don’t mean to sound angry, and it wasn’t aimed directly at anyone. There will always be an exception to the rule, Bielsa brought in that exception but we had to wait a long time. I still fully believe we have the best team in the division, we’d be virtually home and dry without the **** show unsettled start to the season. We might not be PL quality, but we have better players than anyone else, so it stands to reason we’re going to look better than our opponents more often than not. We’ve only got those better players due to the PL, likewise two of the other top 4 teams. If Ipswich are still there at the end well done to them, but they’re on that momentum that many promoted teams often enjoy. If Ipswich don’t do it this season I feel they will miss the boat and they’ll just battle for top 6 now and then. They’ve been good more often than not, but when they’re not good Lady Luck has been there in abundance
