If he hadn’t made use of them, as you put it, we would have been relegated, achieving mid table having to use so many of them was some achievement.
LM is now on a hiding to nothing! c ant get relegated [ except points deduction ] and get to top 6 not enough points .... [ Sheff Wed / Cardiff ]... so should he put the youngsters through the grinder and see what comes out, with a view to 2024/25? next game Knight - Lebel and Mebude .. start second half option is there to give them 45 mins come what may! ...... OR ... rack up a few more points because we have 5 teams from below us plus away to NORWICH ..
Bristol City: If nothing happens, these 5 players will leave Ashton Gate The Robins only have a handful of players who are set to leave the club in the summer https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/b...ppens-these-5-players-will-leave-ashton-gate/
On balance I’d be surprised if Twine stays, so far at least he’s not shown he’s worth anywhere near the £5m Burnley are reported to want for him. Plus if they get relegated they’ll probably want to keep him. I think King will go, although if it was down to me I’d keep him as a coach, who can fill in on the pitch if we’re struggling for numbers. James and Williams are hard to call, I can only see us keeping one of them, if any. Of the two I’d chose James, but if James decides he wants to leave I’d keep Williams. I also think TC will leave this summer, he doesn’t suit Mannings style and recently he just hasn’t looked his normal self. I worry we aren’t going to have enough funds to replace these guys, as well as adding further numbers that will be needed in order for us to be successful next season.
If it were me, I'd try and have a mini clear out.. starting with Wells, Cornick, King, Twine (if he cost 5m) TC if he wants to go, I'd rather keep James if it were a choice between him and Williams..there are a few others depending who we'd be looking to bring in....I'm worried about a couple we have with long term injuries too....
Forgot about Wells, is his contract up?, my worry is with losing all our senior pros at once which will be problematic, a squad needs balance of young and older players for experience and energy.
WELLS doesnt have enough goals as he doesnt do the minutes! each year his value [ not just a transfer fee ] but ability/age goes against him, so contract talks would revolve around his value to the squad v wages on his part would need to see what a week another team would pay and make a decision ... lower team more minutes or maybe 20 plus minutes / occassional start on same wage he might get elsewhere... problem is agents fee's!
Good experience to pass on to young strikers is his biggest asset now, he’s not prolific enough to warrant high wages, as you said he may get a better deal elsewhere.
Max O'Leary was a brick wall for Bristol City but we're still sat on the fence over Scott Twine Bristol Live fan columnist Math Withers breaks down Bristol City's 0-0 draw at Sunderland https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/max-oleary-bristol-scott-twine-9211262
Imo Twine deal is down to cost, can’t see he’s worth anywhere near the £5m reported, unless he improves greatly in the remaining games.
He probably quickly realised he’s joined a team going nowhere and will want to go back to Burnley who will be pushing for promotion again next year Unlike us
Twine on the showings so far no chance of 5 million. The only decent game was the first game the rest are nowt to get excited about.
Needs game time imo was out for quite a while........but I agree as yet doesn't show a 5 mil price tag
I went to the pub [ my local ] on the Mendips last week.... rather than change a note I had a [ocket full of change .. said to land lords daughter who served me ... is that enough .. no need another 40p ... I asked how much is a pint then? £4.50 the reply ... crikey I said I used to come in here on a Friday night, quite a few /[ Sat dinner time a couple pints and couple rolls ] Sat night, a lot 12 or more Sunday eve [ couple of pints ] and go home with a few pennies change from my £fiver ... a pint was less than half a crown! SO my point is what is value for money £5m for a player that prove to be worth it to the team who only gets a few games to shine when each game now is just to knock off the remaining 5 fixtures? we took him on as we thought he was the one .. so follow it through .....
We’ve got a limited budget to spend, £5m is a lot for someone who’s not yet proven he’s good enough. Leaving less to spend on other targets we need.
Out of interest JGF, what is your local? I used to frequent many of the Mendip pubs when playing Shove Ha’penny and darts for my old local, the Dundry Inn…….
My brother in law and his dad ( both deceased now) were regulars in the British Legion, that’s Dundry isn’t it?
