There are Ukrainians returning to war torn Ukraine for dental treatment....having not been able to find a NHS dentist in this country and not being able to afford the ridicules prices for private care.

Where do UK citizens go if they cannot find a NHS dentist other than to the bank manager (assuming that there is such a person anymore ?).

Some of Scotland's oldest golf courses are in danger of disappearing into the sea...due to climate change.

Some will be okay...if they're owned by Donald Trump for example....all that will be needed is for him to do his King Canute act and defy the sea to dare to engulf him.

The man knows no limit to his exalted and elevated abilities to defy anything that he doesn't agree with.

It is a disgraceful situation that dental services have virtually disappeared.

The one we used to use chopped me off the list because I hadn’t been for a while - including the Covid crisis. We heard rumours that the nearest practice to us was taking in NHS patients. They are - but only if you’re under 12.

My other half has got involved in caring for a very old lady who lives nearby. She has various health problems and among other things is on blood thinners. She fell a way ago dislodging a front tooth which for some reason she pulled out a couple of days ago, breaking the wires that were holding it in place. The wire in turn cut her tongue which because of the thinners, caused significant bleeding. Her GP didn’t want to know as it’s dental. No dentist was able to see her. She eventually got a private appointment at 9:30 last night. It took less than 15 minutes and cost £275. The lady concerned isn’t short of money but that’s not the point. What a shambles to leave a woman well into her 90’s bleeding profusely into her mouth for 2 days for want of a 15 minute appointment.

I really didn't take it on board when NHS Dentistry literally disappeared around here....what 10...15...20 years ago....just signed a form to continue at the dentist that I had been going to since 1970.....introduced to Denplan....you paid so much a month/year...and you got a yearly check-up and a yearly hygienist appointment without anymore charge.

BUT if you needed any extra work done then you had to pay.....for example....I can remember sorting out an old filling cost me £179 just for a small filling as well.

I had a crown at the front (of course)...that fell out and it took less than 10 minutes to pop it back in with a bit of super glue type stuff....I'd hardly settled in the chair and it was all over.....£89 thank you very much.....I see you can buy a kit to do it in Boots yourself....can't remember the cost.

There always introducing new things they can do for your teeth....with sophisticated equipment bought for thousands of £'s.

You do feel your an inconvenience as an older person taking their time up with pre-historic teeth....they would whip-em all out and give you dentures for X amount thousands....but at my age I tell them that it isn't cost effective seeing I could pop my clogs anytime....which seems to disappoint them.

Pulled the curtains back this morning....and you could see the reflection of the sky in the pond that was back on the lawn after a night of steady drizzle.

Later I went out there and forked an area of about 20 sq yds....the water was seeping up over my shoes for a far larger area than this time last week.

After lunch with the wind picking up.. but not raining.... I got the mower out and decided to cut an area of grass that was protected by the giant Oak trees leaning over from the Scouts compound....one of the six borders I share with various neighbours....the problem there is also twigs...and small branches that drop from the decaying parts of the Oak trees above.....which does my back in something wicked....although I've got a reasonable robust rotary ...it would be easy to snap the drive belt by not moving some of the debris....I have risked it before with smaller wood debris....but you need your safety glasses on....and a cricket box would be useful as well as shrapnel flies everywhere.

So after resetting my back after a rest...I set the mower on height No 3 of the 5 settings available.....and wishing that I had a crash helmet...I proceeded to cut this area...but by now the wind was quite gusty....and it was spitting with rain....I carried on and gave it a second cut on level 2....by then I had had enough....I checked the other area that I had spent ages forking....but no change.

My bungalow is tucked into the end of the cul-de sac and is probably lower than the others....meaning the water settling on my lawn was probably nearer, the water table level...so is prone to staying sodden longer....although this is the first year since moving here that it has been so noticeable.

There is a little stream not far away....that eventually finds it way to the Thames.....maybe I should dig a trench to there.

Lately, I’ve started to get an email from “Open Britain” on pretty much a daily basis. I don’t know who they are or how they got my email address which is somewhat worrying.

Perhaps it’s the Chinese government or perhaps it’s a more benign version of Dominic Cummings trawling through the metaverse seeking kindred spirits by analysing age, employment status and where they lived. No doubt the so-called Red Wall constituencies in the north that fell to the Conservatives at the last election had previously been carpet-bombed with Brexit propaganda by Cummings.

Interestingly, Cummings used newspaper ads and leafleting because the people he was after typically weren’t on the internet.

Up until yesterday, the main message was that we needed proportional representation to stem the tide of government dominated by extremist factions. That would have been as true of a Jeremy Corbyn government as it is of this rabble we have at the moment.

I’ve always been against PR on the basis that it would paralyse government but given what we’ve seen in recent years, where the middle ground has been abandoned, it’s no longer a bad idea. Better a rather paralysed and ineffective coalition than extremist ideologues.

Anyway, it’s an interesting development (not that I’ve given them any money) and I’ve suddenly become more interested now that I see they’re anti-Brexit. Or is that just them telling me what I want to hear as Cummings did to his target audience?

Back in 2016, Nigel Farage adamantly claimed that getting Brexit done means making food cheaper. Three years later, the Brexit party desperately tried to woo voters with promises of affordable groceries. Just last June, Jacob Rees-Mogg boldly assertedthat Brexit would cut fees and “allow us to lower food prices.” Despite how often that lie has been repeated by Brexit hardliners, it’s remained just that – a lie.

Yesterday, DEFRA revealed that a new flat fee – the “common user charge” – will apply to animal and plant product imports starting on April 30th. The government, who, true to form, announced the changes at the very last minute, claimed that the proceeds will go to “world-class” border detention facilities. Where is their mandate to make consumers pay for their red-meat election fodder?

Once again, we’re hit with the harsh reality that our rights have been traded away for nothing other than a pack of lies. Students and professionals have lost their ability to roam Europe, the institutions protecting our human rights are under siege, and the “red tape” (the laws that once protected UK consumers) has been slashed. Quite a heavy price to pay for empty promises and delusions of grandeur.

Of course, the zealots of the Brexit cult already have a different spin. The Conservatives’ chums at TheExpress and GB News are giddy today, celebrating imaginary victories from their alternate reality. As Upton Sinclair once said, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”

The Brexit cult has spread its evangelical fervour throughout government and media. Lies debunked years ago – currently being disproven once again before our eyes – are still being repeated. It’s no accident or anomaly: broken political systems produce broken political results.

We need to build a political environment where lies like these carry consequence. Where mechanisms exist to hold politician’s feet to the fire. Where the voice of the majority triumphs over powerful extremists and cultish demagogues. It’s not impossible – we have the blueprints. We just need to start building.

"Open Britain" used to be called ..."Britain Stronger in Europe"...owned by...PV Compain Ltd.

    Names that have been associated with it over the years......Pat McFadden...Norman Lamb...Anna Soubry...Nick Morgan...Dominic Grieve...Roland Rudd....etc.

Probably the group that have successfully undermined Brexit....overturning the will of the people referendum of 2016.

They probably read your comments on here notDistant and thought..."A likely supporter".......touches of big brother and 1984.

My concerns at present include the lack of morality we are not finding in the Police Force....(more criminals than in prison).....and our MP's....the latest being a gay one caught in a "honey trap" and passing on over a dozen MP's personal details.....and what is said about it.....Oh he's a lovely man I feel sorry for him....good grief the man needs locking up and thrown out of parliament straight away....the Russians etc must be having a field day with this country at the moment.

Also......Primary school teachers are being told to allow children to change gender without informing their parents despite government guidance to the contrary...the biggest survey of its kind shows......an analysis of more than 600 school equality and trans policies reveals.

Imagine the horror of one mother going to her daughters schools parents evening.... to hear the teacher talking about her daughter as "him" because that is what the child decided.

notDistant....I assume you didn't get invited to Nigel Farage's 60th birthday bash last night ?....(neither did I)....those present Dame Angela Jenkyns...Arron Banks...Liz Truss...David Davies...Mark Francois...Richard Tice...Angelos Frangopoulos...David Starkey and many more...and topped off by your friend and mine with a video call from Donald Trump...(now that is cringeworthy ).

Yep well that's a evil band if ever there was one.

Brexit wasn't undermined. It was an edifice of lies built on a quicksand of egotism, greed, racism and political ambition. As such it was bound to collapse under its own weight when exposed to reality.

You can’t say you weren’t warned of most of what’s happened. You were lied to, you were warned, but chose not to hear. You chose bullshit over truth.

The country needed to get behind the referendum result...it didn't...hence the problems brought on by those that opposed the majority decision...sad state of affairs really....we just need to knuckle down and salvage what we can.

When will this madness end......"Words Such as 'mother' and 'father' are 'oppressive' and should be avoided ....according to a language guide published by a taxpayer-funded aid organisation.
Scotland's International Development Alliance (SIDA) is behind the document...which it says aims to help people 'avoid bias, stop reinforcing existing power structures...and convey respect '.

    Daily Mail...Friday April 5th 2024.

    Poppycock.

Don't blame the people who voted no for the debacle that is brexit or the fall out from it. The only reason it is **** now is because it was voted for in the first place by people who couldn't see the real wood for the trees. You are to blame for this situation now not me and trying to shift the blame is just cobblers.

If the old open cast coal mine at Ffos-y-Fran is filling with contaminated water....how would they pump the water and where to....I'm sure the Welsh Government will just blame Westminster which seems to be their answer to everything....don't you just love party politics at times like this.

It could soon be future PM Keir Starmer's problem.

Fancy the locals expecting to be informed about the beautiful Clydach Reservoir being drained.

I was feeling concerned about the local wild life losing their habitat....until the mention of Canada Geese....the most disgusting creature known to man....that can within days turn a Park's picnic area and children's playground in a filthy quagmire of their slippery droppings....turning into no go area children and their parents.

It's happened around here....and after rain the area turns compatible to an ice rink.
