I've watched the best documentary on the Vietnam War on PBS. Twice lol. I think Duggie watched it as well iirc. It's as good as the World at War with Olivier. Starts from the 1950's all the way through to the 70's, breaking down everything with raw footage and first hand accounts from the U.S. soldiers, the South Vietnamese soldiers and commanders and the Vietcong soldiers/commanders. The irony is that there are so many similarities between that war and this.

I watched it more than once

Best bit is right at the end when former enemies meet up as friends

Cant see that with Hamas and IDF and that is the worst thing about that conflict, the only resolution appears to be the extinction of one or both of them

It was on over Easter and I watched it all again.

I think the difference is the average American soldier and Vietcong didn't have personal animosity. Also think the American soldiers reflected on some of the attrocities they committed as well as the fact most thought what the fck are we out here and doing this for.

But at the time the U.S. were supporting a morally questionable regime in South Vietnam (several in fact) bcos of geopolitical interests, and they were committing some horrendous crimes. And the Vietcong who were brutal as well tbf were painted as evil savages.

There was one episode I think in 1967 when the top brass wanted to try and calculate how long the war would last and they used the biggest and best computer available and input all the info they had from 1963 including kill ratios, weaponry and manpower fed in the data in on a Friday and left it churning over the weekend

On Monday morning they checked the computer which had left a message According to all the data available you won the war in 1965

That was when McNamara jumped ship

I think many people need to re-think their definiton of WAR.
I tend to look at is as two countries having physical confict over land etc. Russia and Ukrain are "at war" and both countries are fighting with similar weapons and actual armies.
Israel and the Palistinians are not "at war" because the people in Gaza have no way of defending themselves from missiles, planes or artilliary yet are getting slaughtered by them day after day.
Israel have the amazing Mossad and the impressive IDF, nobody can tell me they were not capable of opening the border gates and rolling in to empty the tunnels and ferret out any Hamas in the strip. Instead they bombed tunnels (where they believed the hostages they are pretending to save were being kept) and went on to bomb hospitals (where some of the hostages were moved to for safety) great peope eh?

Said it more than once, they have used 7/10 as a perfect excuse for a further land grab (did anyone watch the link i posted with Israeli women talking about prime beach front property in Gaza being available when it's been cleared?)

Mentioned this early on. It's not a war, it's a slaughter.

Israel had been looking for an excuse to pummel Gaza for years.

He was a big for a bit during the Corbyn days, him and Russell Brand told everyone to get out there and vote for Jeremy Corbyn.

When Labour got absolutely trounced the second time around, they vanished.

The Israel Defense Forces has released the findings from its own investigation into the strikes that killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza earlier this week.

Their findings... they thought there were Hamas terrorists on board.

    <laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh><laugh> <laugh> <laugh> <laugh>

Now at this point if you still believe the IDF is reliable and honest, the most moral army in the world, that Israel is doing all it can to mininise loss off innocent life, that there's no agenda here to indiscriminately kill civilians, aid workers, medics, teachers, women and children... then you have to be fcking naive or just happy to be peddle this bullshit narrative <ok>

    Probs just an AI error

no doubt one of the aid workers shared a WhatsApp message with somebody who bought a pint of milk from a shop where a suspected Hamas member once entered

so the computer decided they should all die

According to the BBC, they saw footage of a car full of armed men drive out with the aid cars, these however headed North, the actual aid convoy proceeded South, as planned with the IDF.

The armed vehicle stopped at another aid warehouse, this car was according to the IDF, not bombed because of its proximity to this warehouse.

The remaining convoy, still heading south, was now flagged as confirmed militants by the Drone team, who proceeded to open fire.

They broke multiple rules, did not have actual confirmation and worked purely on presumptions made by themselves and not military intelligence.

For some reason, the IDF also deemed it necessary to show a truck being used as a firing point by a Hamas soldier. I presume this is to say "see, they use this stuff as cover."

The bombing of the convoy is a war crime, simple as. Its clear the issue here is that these soldiers do not require any chain of command to act, they can just do it themselves.

If you have a radical major near you, who wants to kill as many people as possible, he's just going to OK everything with no correlation from higher ups or other departments.

Hell, your higher up may just say "ok lol, just shoot the natives idgaf"

IDF soliders have been filmed admitting to deliberately shooting children.

Picking them out, targeting them and then murdering them

    Let that settle in

These were UK, U.S. Australian aid workers and a spotlight has been shone on what the IDF did and even though they've used the Hamas excuse, they've had to admit they were wrong.

But here's the thing - what does that say about the other 190+ aid workers killed who weren't UK, U.S. or Australian. The ones for who the IDF and every Israeli spokesperson still uses Hamas as the excuse for bombing and killing them? They won't admit those were wrong.

Tbph I don't really believe they thought it was Hamas, and even if they did, they used it as an excuse to kill the aid workers anyway. It was deliberate.

The ONLY mistake they made was not knowing there were British and Americans in the convoy and the ****storm that would follow. If it was Palestinian aid workers they would've got away with it as they have plenty already. The IDF would've maintained they were Hamas.

The question is what happens to the next set of aid workers who aren't Brits or U.S.? That's what I'm thinking. Do Israel go back to the same old bollox narrative and does everyone go back to not giving a fck? Probably, we'll see.
