I know. But I was just adding context to the bit you said about he can't guarantee not selling Bruno, which as a summary statement could be perceived as a bit (intentionally) alarmist. He wants him to stay and will do all he can. But knows it would be foolish to give any guarantees on what might happen in the future.
Do I want Howe out? Probably. Do I want Jose to replace him? No way. Jose has had his day and is a step backwards now, even from Howe.
What exactly do you mean by 'players like this'? From foreign shores? Rumoured before signing?Exciting prospects? No PL experience? Since the takeover, players we've signed for fees of £5m or more are: Trippier Wood Bruno Burn Targett Pope Botman Isak Gordon Minteh Tonali Barnes Livramento And Hall, effectively. Out of those, Trippier, Bruno, Botman, Isak, minteh and Tonali were playing in foreign leagues. Bruno, Botman, Isak, Minteh and Tonali had no PL experience. Trippier, Targett, Botman, Isak, Gordon Minteh, Tonali, Barnes and Livramento were all rumoured in the press to varying degrees before their deals were completed. Trippier, Bruno, Botman, Isak and Tonali were all exciting transfers. Gordon and Barnes were too, for many. Perhaps you meant something else entirely when you stated that we never sign players like this?
They've got to say we have no money haven't they, to go out and strike deals at decent rates - if he comes out and says "we've **** tons of money" people will try and rinse us, this way its all smoke and mirrors. CB - Aradabioyo free / Yoro £30m CB - Kelly free / Chancel Mbemba £15m CF - Gabriel Barbosa free / Toney £50m RW - Bardghji £15m / Diallo £20m LB - Mitchell £20m / Taylor - £10m GK - Valles £15m / Ramsdale £30m £165m max spend (£33m amortized over five year contracts). All of those are up on a free this year or next with the exception of Ramsdale. Anyway - all the PSR bull ****, who cares - let's over spend and take a 4-6 point deduction!
Bardghji £15m????? Unless he has a stupidly small release clause, the chances of getting him for that price are less than me impregnating Margot Robbie, and I've had a vasectomy. Vasectomy aside, banging her wouldn't pose me much of an issue.
Yeah, but Howe seems like he prides himself on honesty and expectations. He said we'd struggle in january, and it was even worse than that. If he's now saying we'll struggle in the Summer, strap in for another season of Burn, Longstaff, Murphy and the gang. We need to make some decent scratch from player sales and spend it wisely.
He is massively unlikely but only because everyone wants him, currently he's in the last year of his contract. Contract expires: Dec 31, 2025 Current Market Value : €9.00m (£7.7m)
They are all examples of what you could bring in this summer on "cheap" deals and even if it looks like a big expenditure the amortized fees if you spent £200m that would be £40m in that seasons budget. With the CL money coming in, Adidas + any other commercial deals we'll have something to spend and I'd guess at least £40m but even if it doesn't sound a lot it can be spread to suit our needs.
As was Isak, who also had a release clause that was substantially higher than the price that NUFC eventually negotiated.
The days of clubs outside the top 6 having club legends are over... if a player is good enough they have to be sold... the legends are now just the plodders nobody else wanted and had a good attitude.
I don't think Newcastle wil sign him and I expect this summer to be similar to a Mike Ashley window. This won't be the case forever, but I think we need to accept it's going to take years and years to build revenues sufficiently.
