Could really kick on if they can get this summer right... a couple more years and Newcastle will be getting where some think they already are.

Ramsdale linked today - honestly think him and Pope would be better than Given and Harper!

European football would be a must though as both of those are going to want games and you want a settled first choice for the EPL and a Cup keeper, which is which who knows?

Past that, we hopefully are going balls deep for a class CB or two now Lascelles is out for 6-9 months as well, much like Botman he could be back around September/October time but equally could be out until January depending on the rehab so we can't go in to the new season with Schar and Burn as our only CB choices.

Striker and a winger next on the list but we may need to hold up on one of those now such is the crisis at CB.

    Not all bad news though<doh>

Newcastle will speed up their search for a centre-back this summer and offer 32-year-old English defender Paul Dummett a new contract after captain Jamaal Lascelles was ruled out for up to nine months with a knee injury. (Newcastle Chronicle)

What about Ciaran Clark? Out of contract with Stoke in the summer, and I assume they'd let him go after the 3 appearances he's managed this season.

If we sell Isak and replace him with Toney, how the **** do we keep Toney & Tonali out of the bookies?

Howe will still probably want to buy Phillips anyway

Maybe they can just bet between themselves instead?

Spanish press saying we've made an approach for Javi Guerra of Valencia and are currently favourites to sign him, ahead of Juventus, Man Utd etc.

More evidence of our English Plodder obsessions.

We're always linked with players like this and never sign them. I'm not ruling it out, but I think in the end we'll be looking at players like McTominay Solanke etc... solanke tbf would be a good signing.

He would, except I fail to understand why we have 20+ scouts if the best they can come up with is Solanke.

In other news, Almiron and Livramento both out for a month. Poor Eddie - such "bad luck".

I'm actually in the Jose IN camp now. I get he's past it, but Chaos is definitely right - he's miles above Howe in a number of other ways and I'd suggest cannot do any worse with injuries or results or player picks.

He'd at least get pulses racing and tongues wagging. A lot of what the owners need is glamour and presence - I'd bet 90%+ of fans worldwide would still say "Eddie who?". For two seasons or so, to put us firmly on the map and attract actual quality, it's a no-brainer.

Plus he's not realistically getting any other job. Bayern will take Alonso and I think he's burned bridges at every other club!

Just watched Howes press conference and if anyone has it in their head that Newcastle will be doing much at all this summer they can forget it.

The noises are basically the same as under Ashley .... the money is no longer there and it's about living within limited means. Howe's very honest aswel.

Solanke is out of reach most likely.

The usual stuff! Can't guarantee Guimareas won't be sold, if players can double their wages that's going to take care of itself and the summer will be very challenging for a number of reasons.

It's now very much like what we'd here from managers under Mike Ashley... the breathing room on spend has obviously been completely exhausted and we're now going to have to grow the club for a few years.

Fortunately we retained Hendrick and Hayden in case of this very situation. Excellent foresight.

Maybe we should invite Longstaff's brother back as extra cover too.

Anyone know what Shefki Kuqi is up to these days?

He also said he believes with every fibre in his body that Dan Burn has been excellent this season.

I would like to see White and never see longstaff again, but in the same way Howe rates Burn as being a better player than Hall we've got exactly the same situation with white and Longstaff.

Howe will never change that opinion either he's like Southgate in that way, so I give up even thinking it'll change.
