I can't see City failing to score, as they have yet to draw a blank in the league this season. I alos can't see City keeping a clean sheet either. So I think it will be a score draw possibly 1-1

Molby: 12th man crucial.

Jan Molby is convinced Anfield's famous 12th man can play a role in helping Liverpool to pass what he regards as their toughest test of the season so far. The great Dane has been hugely impressed by Roberto Mancini's league leaders this term and believes the Reds support can play a vital role in helping to overcome them.

Molby said: "Sunday's game with Manchester City will be Liverpool's biggest examination of the season yet, no doubt about it.

"City are the only top side Liverpool are yet to face, and head to Anfield well clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League table. And while Kenny Dalglish's side have faced the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham, and won so impressively at Chelsea last weekend, City will pose a completely different threat. One that Liverpool will need to be very, very wary of.

"And if the Reds are to get a result on Sunday - against a side that has won 11 of its 12 league matches this season, don't forget - then I feel the fans will have a major role to play. Anfield needs to be a cauldron for games like this. It was when City last visited, back in April, and Roberto Mancini's side didn't handle it at all well. Andy Carroll got amongst them and they wilted.

"Kenny will want something similar this time out, I'm sure.

"He will know the threat City pose from all areas. People single out David Silva, and he is a fantastic player of course, but they have players all over the pitch who can hurt you - Balotelli, Dzeko, Toure, Aguero, Johnson, Milner.

"Liverpool need to be aggressive. They need to play at a high tempo and try to ruffle City. For that, the crowd can play its part.

"It won't be easy, of course. The likes of Silva and Dzeko played here last season, and they will know what Anfield is all about. They are experienced players, class players, and will not be fazed.

"But they are arriving at Anfield on the back of a poor defeat in Napoli, and there could be a hangover from that. The press have had a field day on their 'failings' in the Champions League, but the Premier League is their bread and butter.

"Liverpool will need to be on their game on Sunday, and the Anfield crowd could make the difference."

Head-to-head

Manchester City have failed to win on their last eight trips to Anfield (D2, L6).
Andy Carroll scored his first goals for Liverpool in the corresponding fixture last April as Liverpool won 3-0.

Liverpool are undefeated in their last eight league matches (W6, D2) against both of the Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Arsenal since a 3-2 loss at Manchester United in September 2010.

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has now scored nine goals in his past 10 matches.

It should be a good game, we need to control the midfield Lucas and Adam will be key and our strikers need to be spot on. Bellamy and Suarez up front for me.

We never know what surprises RM will throw at us but if that is the line-up we wont be shy of goals either.

Kenny's Kop Message.

Kenny Dalglish has spoken of how Liverpool Football Club could not have asked for any more from its new owners over the last year as Anfield prepares to host Manchester City on Sunday. The boss is delighted with the support he has received from Fenway Sports Group, but knows Liverpool need time before they can return to the very top.

He hopes for 'patience and understanding' from supporters - but accepts he and the players also have a role to play in keeping Anfield buzzing.

Dalglish told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Patience is very important but at the same time there has to be encouragement. It's all very well being patient but not if you're going nowhere - but I don't think that's the case.

"The players are showing great attitude and aptitude to push forward and upwards. Some of the stuff they've played at Anfield has been superb and we've not got the results I think we've deserved at home. In this world, patience is something that's in short demand with social networking - most things are instantaneous. But getting success in football doesn't work like that.

"We've had fantastic support financially from the owners, which is really important because if you want to move forward you need finance. They've given everything they can financially to help improve the team.

"Although we might not have spent as much as Manchester City or some other people, we've certainly spent as much as we possibly could. There is no way anybody wants this football club running up a bad debt, so the owners have done the maximum we could have expected financially.

"Patience and understanding are important, and I think everyone understands what we're trying to achieve."

Liverpool host Roberto Mancini's league leaders on Sunday tea-time and Dalglish is anticipating a lively atmosphere.

He said: "It's always a fantastic atmosphere, especially now we're getting towards the dark nights. 4pm is like an evening kick-off. It's going to be dark, the lights will be on and that has provided some of the most fantastic stages for football at Anfield.

"The fans are always a very, very important part of this football club. They always have been and they will be going forward. Any help they can give to the players on the pitch will help us progress. Everybody has a role to play. Ourselves and the players obviously. Sometimes it's their responsibility to lift the fans and sometimes it's the other way around.

"It's been very important and apparent to myself since I came back in January that everyone has really rallied around, got together and been supportive. Not just players and supporters, but the owners and directors. Ian Ayre has done a fantastic job commercially and the owners have been fantastically supportive in many, many ways.

"When it comes to big games everybody really appreciates the support we get. It doesn't matter how good you are - if you feel they've got confidence and belief in you as a player, then it helps. If anyone makes a mistake who is playing for this football club, it won't ever be a deliberate one.

"If the players go out and play with their heart and their soul then our supporters will always be right behind them."

Downing: Let's end City run!

Stewart Downing believes Liverpool will have to repeat their Chelsea heroics if they are to end Manchester City's unbeaten start to the league season on Sunday afternoon. The leaders come into the clash on the back of a disappointing result in the Champions League but remain the team to beat on the domestic front.

The England winger points to the Citizens's emphatic wins at Old Trafford and White Hart Lane as proof of the danger they pose and feels the Reds must prove their mettle if they are to emerge victorious.

Downing told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It's going to have to be a top performance. They are a top team with many, many great players, not just in the 11 but on the bench.

"We are going to have to be right up for it and start well. If we don't they will punish you, which they have shown against the top teams this season. But we have belief in our own ability."

He added: "I think we should look forward to it and say 'Why can't we be the first team to beat them?' It's a great incentive for us. Obviously they are coming off a defeat in Napoli so they will be right up for it.

"We are full of confidence from our result at Chelsea so it has the makings of a cracking game. We are at home at Anfield so I'm confident we can get a result."

The Reds welcome Roberto Mancini's men to L4 on the back of a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Downing admits confidence levels at Melwood are high at the moment and revealed that there has been an extra spring in the step of his teammates on the training pitch.

He said: "Confidence is flying, especially the way we won the game because it was difficult circumstances in the second half and we nicked it right at the end. Training has been really intense and we are really looking forward to the game."

Kenny Dalglish's men are currently sixth in the Barclays Premier League but lie just three points off third-placed Tottenham.

Downing is delighted that the Reds are back in the reckoning at the top of the table and is hoping their approach so far this term will continue to serve them well.

He said: "Inside the club we have the belief that we have a really good team, but we have quietly gone about our business and got some good results. We made a big statement on Sunday by beating Chelsea on their home turf and they don't lose there very often. We are going about our work quietly and that's the best way to do it."

Manchester City fan Richard Barter provides the view from the Etihad as the league leaders prepare to visit Anfield on Sunday.

How are City fans feeling about a trip to Anfield?

Fair to say we are playing an in-form team at a ground we rarely do well at. Having said that, we hope to see a reaction after Napoli. Blues of a certain age approach this fixture with trepidation. I grew up in Southport and recall a few 4-0 drubbings in the 70s and 80s until the time we beat you 3-1 (1981?). We went home happy that night! Mind you, if memory serves, you went unbeaten after that and won the league.

One song we're bound to hear?

Oh Balotelli
He's a striker
He's good at darts
An allergy to grass but when he plays he's ******* class
Drives around Moss Side with a wallet full o' cash

Best and worst thing about being a City fan?

Best - the self-depreciating humour we've developed over the years. Also, we used to be a team everyone had a soft spot for (with neighbours from hell, of course). Right now is a great time to be a Blue. We're on the verge of a potentially great era.
Worst - since the takeover by Sheikh Mansour, we feel we have to justify support through longevity, ie I am not a bandwagon jumper. Unfortunately the game today is very different and money talks. The likes of Forest and Leeds will not win the Prem again unless taken over by wealthy benefactors. Fans of other clubs need to ask themselves if their club would honestly turn down the kind of takeover we have experienced at Eastlands.

Are you going to win the league?

We'll never have a better chance. Chelsea are rebuilding, Arsenal started slowly and will struggle when RVP gets crocked (as he always does), Liverpool and Spurs are looking good but are not there yet. That just leaves Yoonietid, realistically. They know how to win the league and we hurt them badly the other week (no regrets, mind!). I think we have the squad and collective experience to build on our blistering start. Optimistic, yes, but many teams have blown early season leads and as Franny once famously said, 'If there was a cup for cock-ups, we'd win it every year.' The home derby in late April will be crucial.

Who makes you tick?

David Silva - Merlin just oozes class and is up there with the best. I have to pinch myself every time I see him in a City shirt.

Players you'll be worried about on our side?

Suarez will be a tricky customer and Carroll always does well against City. Bellers may just have a point to prove too if he plays.

Weak links?

Defence gets caught out on high diagonal balls more often than they should. We'll need to stay solid at the back and I anticipate us playing Jimmy Milner, Gaz Baz and Yaya to bolster the back third of the pitch as Liverpool will press the play.

Best way to beat Man City?

Play us in a Champions League fixture!

Prediction?

I'm hoping for a cracker - I see goals in this one. Gut says 2-2.
