    My definitions:
A pessimist thinks it will definitely all go wrong no matter what.
A realist knows that any one of several permutations are possible.
The optimist is the one who says we have a real shot at this.
The person who thinks it's in the bag is deranged.

Call yourself a pessimist? A real pessimist would have us lose by 15 or something.
A masochist has us losing by 1 again. :)

I think City have been very good at closing seasons out and pipping us at the post. However, this year they are getting injuries at the business end of the season, Haaland looked idiotic yesterday like a bull in a china shop and City are struggling to score goals against the top sides.
It is in our hands, 9 games to go. I think it will go down to the final day and it’s too close to call

anthony taylor will be hoping to maybe send 3 reds off but it'd take some refereeing perofrmance to turn this game.

CHRIS SUTTON'S PREDICTION: COMFORTABLE HOME WIN.

    Liverpool v Sheff Utd (19:30)
This is top versus bottom and Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah is going to be captaining my Fantasy team - that should tell you all you need to know about what I am expecting to happen here.

Against Brighton on Sunday, Liverpool did what they have done all season, which is finding a way to win even when they fall behind.

This should be far more straightforward because Sheffield United do not have the quality to cause them the same problems the Seagulls did.

Liverpool cannot just expect to turn up and win easily though. The finish line is in sight but they need to put their foot down to get there first, and that is what I think will happen here.

Looking at the table, goal difference could play a big part in the title race. Arsenal have the advantage there at the moment, but a big scoreline here could change that.

    Sutton's prediction: 5-0

Jimmy's prediction: Liverpool are actually my second team, and my Premier League team at the moment. I love Liverpool, I love the city and I love the people and I think they will get an easy win here. 2-0

JONES' KNOWS BEST HAS GONE FOR COMFORTABLE HOME WIN TOO.

Liverpool vs Sheffield United, Thursday 7.30pm
I'm a little confused at why Mohamed Salah is 2/5 with Sky Bet to score anytime and Luis Diaz is 11/8.

I'd have them around the same price on current form but obviously the bookmaker algorithms have spat out the rather chunky price on Diaz.

In a turgid betting heat where a one-sided game looks on the cards, the Diaz anytime price looks one to focus on.

The Colombian has netted seven times in his last 12 starts. In that timeframe he's had, wait for it, 50 shots to an average of 4.1 per 90 minutes with 19 of those hitting the target.

The market is expecting Liverpool to score at least three goals here so it doesn't really add up that Diaz is given a 42 per cent implied probability of scoring at least one of them - my figures have it closer to 55 per cent. It looks a cracking price.

    SCORE PREDICTION: 5-0

if we score only 5 then it's not good enough.

look back at thr away game where their defender just didn't realise or didn't bother to run with salah and basically gifted an open goal.

this lot are absolute ****e and once a couple go in they will give up.

these know coming to anfield is a hiding so you just have to remind them they were right and score a couple early on and watch the heart go out of them.

they have to go it we are -6 on GD.

this is the worst side to come to anfield imo since derby when we beat them 6-0.

We need to get into this lot.

look a thtier results. High scoring draws off fulham and brournmouth (can't defend) thumped by 6 by arsneal. thumped by brighton, thumped by villa.

We simply have to get about the job. this lot were elading bournemouth by 2 goals recently and coughte dit up to 2-2. they led 3-1 v fulham and coughed it up.

They are woeful at the back and we have the quality. We need to get the goals here and send them packing.

No what we have to do is win pure and simple. If we boost our GD in comparison to the others that is just a bonus .Win the next 9 1-0 and GD deficit willmean the square root of **** all and we will all be happy - well apart from Bumps who will be worrying it will all go tits up next year :bandit:

Yes we need to win, absolutely.

yes win the lot 1-0 and i'll be over the moon

but at the same time whacking 7 shades out of this lot is the perfect opportunity to get ourselves a cushion.

My dream is a bus tour on the 23rd may where the city is flooded red and 3 trophies are on that bus with klopp waving bye and crying.

Blimey, stop obsessing over the GD - you'll do yourself a mischief. Let's just make sure we win the game, eh?

We should have it won in side 20. Thats the dream.

Not one of you has made the point that we could take it easy if we did get a couple goals up given the game schedule coming. I would have taken that as a good point but i can't take jinxes or just win it as really a sound starting point in a discussion.

I'd rather chase goals now when they are infornt of us at home than do what we did in 213/14 after slippy g made a mess out of an easy draw v cheslea that would have won the title. we chased 7 or 8 v papalce and went form 3-1 to 3-3 and then didn't even have a gd hope any more.

Either win this very well to keep the likes of city behind by 3 plus GD or take it very easy and scrape by 2-0 with players rested for utd.

We know who we are up agasint and what we have to do. this midweek we get to see what they've done and can go match or better it.

Aren't you arguing against yourself here? This is the very scenario that sprung to mind when you mentioned bumping up the GD. We chased the goals and dropped the points.
Setting a goal target is being way ahead of yourself when we all know that no game is guaranteed - even one against a struggling side like Sheffield.
Just get the win - it'll be fine.

    no.

We chased goals with desperation in 2013/14. We had already ****ed it form a lead.

In 23/24 we are in the lead and have a game agasint the worst side i nthe prem since Derby IKMO can have the chance to fill our boots. If it ends 1-0 then so be it we still get the points but the opportunity here is to put city fimrly on the back foot and having to also chase goals.

We should be wanting to go at this lot and hammer into them.......... if we choose after 30mins to just start tapping it about and resting so be it but I'd rather we get the goals now.

City are 3 points back. that have a -5 GD. that could evaporate in one game knowing them. Image we get that to -10 with a few games ot go. thats in effect a 4 point lead.

Arsenal by contrast have a +6 GD so know one draw from us and they are ahead again.

So yeah, win the game but fill your boots at home. If you make 5 subs i nthe game you can still chase that GD without risking players much.

IMO this lot will be coming to not be hammered no matter that their manager says to them. Score a couple and they will crack. Arsenal were 3 up after 15mins. they actually only added 1 second half in a 6-0 drubbing. AND THAT WAS AT HOME.

villa did the same. bang bang bang and the game was over after 20mins.

A good fast start is what we need here.
