And Gakpo, and Salah. Elliott and AMC were trying to calm it down. I think Brighton marked VVD out of the game, they let Quansah have it
Serious question. What's your opinion of defenders running out of the area at free kicks in an attempt to leave attackers off side when they know full well where the ball is going. Who is "seeking to gain unfair advantage" there?
pointless question imo as all rules are pushed to their limits and in a number of cases just ignored by refs normally.
Why is it pointless? Defenders run away to try and gain unfair advantage so surely the strikers trying to attack the ball should not be classed as offside.
Long time since i read it but the main point was "seeking to gain unfair advantage" and i assume that hasn't changed.
Think it’s massively risky and easy to attack against as you just have depth to your attackers rather than all stand in 1 line. 1 runner from deep and they’re in. Can’t remember last time ever saw anyone do it though.
Is that really an "unfair" advantage? The offside rule exists so tacticians are always going to look for ways to exploit it. I think what annoys most fans is the fine margins used to measure offside and the number of good goals ruled out because of it. Even if you change the criteria you only shift the line-drawing business along a bit. I think they could simplify it by just using feet. It's fairly arbitrary anyway - as I've said before advantage depends just as much on how near a defender is to the striker as on how close to the goal he is.
Of course it is, defenders deliberately run away from their duties because they are too poor or cowardly to challenge the opposition at free kicks. They are seeking an advantage whereby a striker who is stood in a forward position is deemed offside without even moving and therefore not seeking advantage. If this was legitimate then when facing a free kick into their area the defenders may as well all go and stand behind the kicker.
It's an advantage, but why is it "unfair"? It's a legitimate tactic to exploit the rule as it stands. Cowardice has nothing to do with it.
Excellent result. We're really seeing the difference this season in having a fit and functioning midfield. Special shout out to Mac Allister who leaves everything on the pitch. He's a joy to watch.
the squad is exceptional with added bonuses all round. gomez fit and playing games compared.to the low confidence shambling mess he was before is great. quansah emergence is massive for us. endo macca, Szoboszlai and seeing Jones continue to emerge has.means we have not missed experience (or sluggish slow players that left) all the forwards being fit enough for long enough to cover each other is good even though they all have had issues in the year. just about every game a couple score. last year we only has salah fit really.
I agree with all of this and would add what a revelation Bradley has been and continues to be and Kelleher maintaining a high standard has been massive too. Whatever happens, this season has been great to watch and we have very strong foundations to build on.
