I mentioned this the other day, but any other season historically, we'd be comfortably top 2 right now. It's just the sheer high quality of the league this year is muscling us out a bit. I also agree that if we had a different (I don't want to say better; I do mostly rate Martin) manager, we might be up there with those higher quality sides as well.
We have got to get back to the back four we had during the 25 match unbeaten run asap, our problem right now is we need to score too many goals to get the wins right now. I think the balance in midfield is ok when the players are in their correct positions but we are not solid enough at the back.
Name one big game we haven't bottled? There is absolutely 0 and I mean 0 chance, this team, with this manager wins a pressure game, and pressure games don't get much bigger then the play offs. ****ing disgraceful set of results after the international break.
I didn't see anything from Ipswich at SMS to worry me. And for 60 minutes today, that was largely the case again (we were comfortably the better side until then). But they have ultimately taken the full 6 points from us, whilst at the same time again illustrating that their manager utilises their bench better than anyone else in the league. And as such, I do feel dirty about them in the play-offs. Are they really the weaker of the three sides? I want to say yes, but I don't know. I suppose whichever one of them is to miss out, the best outcome for us would be that they miss out on the last day. Maximize their level of disappointment about being left to go into the play-offs.
Oh let's get rid of the manager for who Hughes Pellegrino Pull Jones Sourness Wigley Stuart Gray Any preference. Or another stupid entitled ****er of the a fan who has never played fotball
It's a good thought, but thats a bit too simplistic though. We were found out as a side with that back four (Bristol City, Hull, Huddersfield all spring to mind) towards the end of that unbeaten run.
My thoughts exactly. Over 2 legs, we can beat anyone ... and probably will. The final though is a different thing. Whatever happens this has been a really enjoyable season. EDIT: And we are still in the Champions League position,
I've supported Saints for more years than I care to mention, but I really can't remember a game this season that I've enjoyed. Our build up play is so slow and laboured we are predictable beyond beleif, it just makes us so,so easy to play against. We are blessed with easily one of the best, most skillful set of players in the division but we seem to huff and puff every game. Can you really imagine us in the Premier league? Guess it must be me as most seem a enjoy this style of play?
Yeah, Russ does tend to have a touch of the Ralph in trying to be a bit smart with stuff, when we all actually know what works (even if there is a weakness at LB). In fairness, for most of the game his ploy did work today, until everyone got knackered. Where he cocked it up was not replacing people (such as Bree etc) five or ten minutes earlier. And bringing on Smallbone as a like for like made no sense. At that point, chuck in Chaos Camel or something.
Well at least we can all relax now for a few weeks until the play offs. Unless we win the next 6 games on the trot! Be interesting to see what RM does over the coming games. The trouble is we struggle when the tide turns during the course of a game. I wouldn't be surprised if we thrashed blackburn as the pressure has gone somewhat
Don't be a ****** . Sorry but those it such a stupid comment. We have played well in.many games. Last year wS just horrid
But then Downes was missing for those particular games and the midfield was changed with players out of postion which was the second part of my post.
Generally speaking their signings this season have been much better (in context of our league), there were still some duds but not more than you would usually get at any side. Martin is a much better appointment than Jones and Selles too. If we had continued on the trend from last season we would have been mid table at best this season. Wilcox was a good appointment behind the scenes too, but we cant do too much about him ****ing off.
It's all about the striker. Everything else looks good to me but we just fluff too many chances. We also don't have enough shots from outside the box. None of our midfielders seem willing to put their foot though it from 25 yards. Apart from that I really enjoy our football.
