I know the French are ****s but their language is the only one I wished I'd learnt.

Going to watch City in the FA Cup final against Arsenal. It was my Mum’s 60th Birthday weekend with a family party. I missed that for the final.

She died a few months later after a massive brain haemorrhage.

I still kick myself about that and feel guilty. It will be 10 years on this year.

Look GLP, you'd have been miserable at the party, your mum would have probably been happy for you to have been at the match, don't beat yourself up.

I'm sure your mum got more pleasure out of knowing you got to watch Hull city in an fa cup final then she would have done having you at the party and missing it.

I’m sure she did, hindsight though, I’d have given up my place at the final.

100% understandable and I'm pretty sure everyone would say/do the same.

Not looking after my body, not because of eating or drinking or owt like that, just playing through injury time and again when younger, not doing my rehab properly when directed to by physios etc, 42 now, 5 surgeries down and I can feel my body starting to give up, already had to give up cricket as I can't bowl anymore after shoulder surgery last year, I've also not even been able to get back to even 3/4 the weights I used to do for chest and shoulders, still play a fair bit of footy but I'm nailed on for a full knee replacement in a few years, ankle and big toe issues give me some gyp, mean I can't really train legs properly any more, basically held together with gaffer tape, notice sometimes simple things like getting out of a car or off the sofa isn't just a case of jumping up like I used to.....

I think another one of mine was not picking up the guitar earlier.

I was 25 and I'm a okay bedroom guitarist but could of been a lot better.

I did manage to see them at Wembley in 2019 but unfortunately without Lindsay Buckingham. Neil Finn was deputising and did a pretty good job but wish I’d seen the full line up from that incarnation.

The usual investment and career mistakes that would have allowed me to retire now and focus on my passions.
Treating women badly in relationships when I was younger.
Not calling out friends for homophobia and misogyny/inappropriate behaviour when I was a teenager, and most shamefully, being complicit in it on occasion.
Not spending enough time with family.

Nearly did the same until a few days ago - ordered a guitar , can get some basic chord instruction but it seems that every tuition avenue in books or on you tube seems to assume you know about scales , positions , notes , and the instruction starts part way into the playing - any ideas for an absolute beginner ?

A site like this might help, it has a version of pretty much every song on it, with chord symbols…

    Justin Guitar.

He has beginner course. Just follow it.

Just prepared to suck for at least a year.

Not having a go at the All Arms Commando course in ‘91 in order to go to 59 Ind Cdo Sqn. RE.

Trained hard for year and got in decent nick for it. Cardio wise I was on point( I could carry heavy weight at speed over distance) but upper body ( rope work) might have struggled.

Saying that the ‘ beat up’ programme would have probably ironed that out.

Got a nasty injury 4 months from starting, got sent to a Field Squadron and lost all interest.

All my mates who went on course passed and got their ‘green lids’.

Yeah, I regret not having a go because deep down I know I’d have had a fighting chance.

The art is to keep at it, its going to take you a while to feel you are progressing but you will.
