I agree. Defensively he’s average but I was excited about his attacking side and his assists for Boro. Been disappointing offensively and average defensively.
I think thats more Roseniors doing. He looked fantastic the last couple of seasons for other teams in the championship.
Yeah, a couple of good games early on and then appears to dropped off a bit. Stoke player got goal side of him nearly every time on Saturday.
We barely overlap, so having an attack minded fullback in this system makes little sense. We'd see more from Giles and Coyle if they were enabled to push on more frequently. Coyle is a great example of this. We talk about how good he's been this season but to me it feels like he contributed far more to the attack earlier last season and popped up with more crosses and assists and a couple of goals to boot. Him and Giles don't get past the halfway line much now in comparison. We sit back and let the attackers do stepovers.
But we've got wingers who could do that now, except they don't and even if they did start banging in crosses we've got nobody to get on the end of them except for 7 foot opposition defenders.
If signing Giles is the difference between buying Delap or not then there’s only one option. Same with any other quality striker that comes available to us. £4m is a lot for us to pay for a defender who is only doing ok for us.
I agree on Giles but not on Coyle, I think this system suits Coyle perfectly as he’s great at arriving late and popping a beauty into the box. He’s not got the engine or speed to maraud up and down the flank like a proper attacking full back. The problem is he doesn’t have anyone to aim for in the box at the minute. He put some absolute belters in for Oscar and Tetteh last season though.
Coyle is probably the best crosser at the club but as you say, our current system does put many players in the box to get onto crosses. Our build-up is based around players coming short to receive passes around the box but few in it.
Normally 'late' is when we've passed it centrally so whoever's in the middle with 8 defenders in front of them can either hit a pressured shot into row Z or score the odd worldie. You're right though - we don't have that goalscorer to get on the end of anything that does come in.
This is a genuine question, every transfer window you come up with 'I like, or I'd like us to get' statements for the most random players from League 1 to Europe. How many times have you watched full games for these players you'd like. I'm not talking highlights or youtube but actual full matches and how many of these full matches per player?
Based on what has happened the last few weeks, not only can I see JG and Philo leaving, but perhaps Seri too. I'd be surprised if USA or Saudi didnt come calling based on his exploits at AFCON. Jones may well be a target for another high end Championship club too... (even someone like Portsmouth, but thats just guessing).. Macca will definitely be going also.... " It'll still be Hull City folks, but not as we know it..."
