Tried to cool down on my way home before a ott reactionary post but genuinely the worst performance I’ve seen in person at the SOL. Imo Dodds and the supporting coaching team should go, this team is stale/running through the motions and I think we need new voices.

Will save a full post on speakman for a different thread but as each week passes I’m starting to lean for him to go too. His two transfer windows and two appointments this season have been utter disasters and significantly reversed the trajectory this team was on. Still stand by that the decision to just go with Dodds was weak. If what we’ve been served up in 2024 leads to us making an unambitious/underwhelming appointment like heckingbottom etc then I’ll be gutted.

We are at a cross roads for me, there is a lot of good about the club and the team that with good decisions I think will see us challenging at the top next season. But on the other hand a repeat of the level of mistakes made this year makes me worry we could be looking over our shoulder next year. Haven’t lost hope but today was absolutely unacceptable.

 

I think KLD and the board will need to have a very rigorous review of this season. Any assessment of Speakman's performance will have to be judged on why certain decisions were made and the context in which those decisions were made. None of us will ever be privy to all of those details and most of us will never claim to be privy to them.

 

Yes he’s been hung out to dry, but he looks lost on the sideline! If we’re waiting for someone in employment he needs appointed as soon as season is done, can’t be pissing around for weeks! If our target is free now then bring him in, and get a head start

 

It doesn’t change my opinion of him or his own performance today but I can’t remember a Sunderland coach / manager being as scathing about a performance as Dodds is today.

season just needs to end and new coaching team brought in. Dodds can stick around within the team as he’s obviously a good coach. But not as assistant please

 

probably the anger speaking about KLD but he needs to scrap the utter ****e model and spend some money of some experienced players needs to sack Speakman soon as possible too

 

Absolute bollocks. We've had owner after owner who've went from journey man to journey man without a plan and look where we've ended up.
At least KLD has brought us a plan and an identity which we've been crying out for,for years.

You might dislike Speakman and some of the decisions he has made, but to sack KLD off and start again is ridiculous in my eyes.

Yes the club has made mistakes, especially this season, but we're a much better run club than we were 3,4, 5 years ago

 

I can't see how kld is the problem here like.

 

If you appoint a manager and sack him 2 years later it is that manager's fault. If you appoint a manager and sack him 2 months later it is your fault.

Looking at the debacle that has transpired since Mowbrays sacking… just goes to show apart from a handful of games at the end of his reign…Mowbray did a great job and probably saved us from certain relegation. The difference between then and now is night and day… great job Speskman, hang your head in shame

 

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one Bob. As mentioned by someone earlier, we're the 7th highest spenders in the league this season on team strengthening. Only thing I would fault him on is his faith in his DOF. That needs to change, not the ownership.

 

He's investing in everything after the other two raped the club ,

 

if he changes a plan thats not working, and invests in the team, he can stay till the cows come home.

A lot of today, for me, came down to attitude. Don't think that we were up for the fight, I hesitate to say typical end of season but I'm leaning that way.
Young lads should learn from it and hopefully put a better performance in on Saturday. They certainly need to be encouraged to put in a performance.

Can't believe I'm so sanguine about the result and the performance.

 

But he has. Heavily. The facts are there for all to see. KLD doesn't pick the players we sign.

You wouldn't want him to pay for stadium improvements though would you, you'd want the fans brought in to do it for free like your mates did.

 

The plan was working, we got promoted then into the playoffs.
He has invested in the team.
We've gone down the pan the last few months and I expect he will be looking to address that.
