We as a side play very low risk football, keep the game in an even state, hoping one of our many talented forwards can produce a piece of magic. We need an alternative to this. I hope we can get there, but we need to completely strip what we currently try to do in attack because it’s not sustainable at all, as our inconsistency has shown in the final third this season.
A lot of their squad is a carry over from their PL days though or signings they made soon after dropping into the Championship.
It's remarkable how many goals we can score when we roll the dice so we need to learn to do that more often from the start of games. I actually tend to feel more confident when we go 1-0 down in games than go 1-0 up (despite Wessie's stat the other week) because it forces us to chase the game. I thought falling out of the play off places would have a similar mental impact on us but it didn't.
For me you either sack him now and hope someone can come in and galvanise the team into 8 wins on the bounce or continue backing him in the summer and next season. He will have learned a lot from this season and will hopefully be a better manager next season for it. Sacking him in the summer seems kinda pointless unless a real star candidate is available to us.
I replied to someone on twitter earlier saying exactly the same. We look our best when we are chasing a game as players naturally up the tempo despite any prior instructions…
We need an attacking coach or consultant in the building before we make any more signings. We need a plan to balance the squad and sign players accordingly, if so, give Rosie another year. We must not continue with the scattergun signings because it's not working, and not likely to. There has to be change/evolution of our attacking play or we will never get anywhere.
Kipré, Phillips and Diangana are the only players they signed last time in the Prem that they still have, barring Karlan Grant who is on loan at Cardiff. The only players they signed immediately after coming down the following season that are still there are Mowatt on a free, Reach on a free and Dike who has been injured for ages and hardly played. The season after they signed Swift, Wallace and Yokuşlu all on frees. Their owner has been notoriously stingy for the last couple of years so it’s credit to Corberán that he’s built a squad with the resources he has. Rosenior on the other hand has been given everything he’s asked for and more. I’d rather have Acun over West Brom’s owner but I’d rather have their manager over Rosenior every day of the week.
Swift and Wallace were free in the same way Oscar was, they would have cost a hefty signing on fee. I agree on Corberan though.
i just think, when you have a lot of hype around a club and an owner willing to invest, you need to make the absolute most of it football, especially the championship is a fast moving industry, and a cruel and cuthroat one its so easy to end up like blackburn or Millwall, teams with absolutely no ambition, stagnant so it is a huge decision that ultimately acun needs to make, he has no qualms with being ruthless if he thinks its the best thing you cant be a success at business without it its just acun wont be here forever, i hope we wont waste this opportunity
Assuming £20m a piece for Philogene and Greaves. We could easily build a squad capable of being at the top end under any gaffer. A lot of talent in league one atm I think we could sign alongside some experienced heads. Would be trying to do everything for Karamoko Dembele currently at Blackpool. Right sided player, assist machine, destined for big things. Would get Helik from Huddersfield if they went down too. Alex Robertson hopefully the next Man City loanee, I know you’d be happy with that one Syd.
Yeah think I mentioned Robertson a while back, unfortunately just before he got injured for the remainder of the season. Exactly the sort of player who would do well here though.
I think we thought we had brought in a top coach. Just goes to show experience does not come quickly.
We need to revamp the midfield. Both good players for this level but we need to strike a balance between players good in possession (Seri and Slater) and players good out of it (not seri and slater). Marc Leonard is another we should be looking at who’s very good in both departments.
So? We’ve signed the likes of Tufan, Traoré, and Ömür in the same period who are just as good as Swift and Wallace. Not to mention Carvalho on loan. You cannot keep reverting back to this tired excuse of ‘they have parachute money’ because it doesn’t explain ****. West Brom’s squad is not significantly better than ours. The players they’ve signed aren’t significantly better than the players we’ve signed in the same period. In fact, I’d argue Philogene is better than Diangana, Carvalho is better than Wallace and Tufan and Ömür are better than Swift. Compare our squads and I’d say the only players they have that get in over our own are Yokuşlu and Furlong. Oh and Palmer is better than Allsop but there are two dozen keepers better than Furlong in this league so not difficult. So they’ve not outspent us or signed better players than us. The difference is they have a good manager and we don’t. That’s the only variable.
But you’re saying they have parachute money and a squad with a lot of Prem players but that isn’t the difference between us and West Brom because we have spent a lot of money ourselves and signed players who are just as good if not better than West Brom’s. The only difference is the manager. Rosenior has to go in the summer. There’s no point wasting another summer transfer window backing him when he’s not good enough.
My point about their spending/squad was that just because their owner hasn't shelled out transfer fees doesn't mean they haven't spent money. I was providing context to the broader point. Does he? Is it wasted? He's brought in/developed a lot of talent that will earn us a lot of money.
