Anyone any idea what was going on in the Northam Stand? Seemed to be police, stewards and fans being ejected?
The amount of overhit and slightly off passes yesterday was testament to this. We always seem to take a game to get back up to speed after an international break. We almost got away with throwing it away yesterday because of Leeds and Leicesters results but we are playing catch up to them so we can’t drop points when they do, we need to capitalise. Ipswich on Monday is make or break. It will take a big improvement on yesterday, but we are capable of that.
There are a couple of guys who bang on the advertising signs to raise the fan base, a jobsworth decided to stop them, after being told to stop they repeated the banging and were ejected, the fan base were objecting to the action and were making their feelings known.
We won’t get promoted this season. I think mentally we’re still quite weak. For promotion you need to take your chances when on top to kill the game, and if you can’t do that you need to see games like yesterday out defensively which we do not do often enough as per Ipswich did yesterday. For teams that are well coached with good players, they seem to have worked us out as we are very one paced. It still frustrates the crap out of me that we are so slow at closing down opposition wingers allowing them so much time to put good crosses into our area. As for players leaving next season, it will be a massive cull, but I look forward to hopefully seeing the likes of Meghoma, SAA, Dibling etc, becoming bigger players next season. And of course we get to play the fishy ****ers down the road twice next season.
Stirring up the noise is a good thing, but if it’s something that might get damaged then the stewards are going to be expected to stop them. They bang on the walls behind us but it doesn’t do any damage EDIT: Should say, shame they couldn’t have done that better and was it going to damage them?
The main stewards weren't taking any notice, but there seems to be a seperate security group who objected, however once told to stop they should have taken the hint and obeyed the rules.
It doesn't do any damage, the guys are life long Saints fans and are well known and have been doing it for years and no one has bothered about it, the Northam had gone in to slumber mode and they were trying to wake them up.
I disagree that we are mentally weak. I actually think our mentality is quite impressive. We are very methodical and stick to the game plan no matter what kind of pressure we are under. So many times we successfully pass our way out of danger when players with a weaker mentality would simply resort to hoofing it. Just because we conceded a late goal, means nothing to me about mentality. There are so many other factors; tiredness, Boro throwing players forward, etc. We've scored a lot more late goals than we've conceded, so that contradicts the weak mentality theory straight away. The biggest reason we didn't win - in fact the only reason - was Che's lack of composure in front of goal. That's always been his problem, under pressure or not. The defence was generally very good yesterday, but if your strikers are missing open goals then it's only a matter of time before the game is levelled/lost.
Thought the new owners wanted to improve the atmosphere. The club should pay for some drums for these lads lol.
Sulemana proved to me once again that he should be 5th choice out of our wing options too. So frustrating his reluctance to take his man on. That’s the entire point of him being in the team.
Yep, was given another opportunity to show what he can do & shove it to the “no final product” brigade (sorta me included). Ok, it was his cross that led to the goal but not much else. On the + side, he’s young & does have potential so probably worth developing but he definitely running out of time. TSP & AlfieH reckon he’ll be let go at season end regardless.
He did a few good things early on and then just sorta stopped. He often had space and just one man to beat and he stopped, waited until a second man came to him and just played a simple 5 yard pass. He got lucky with the cross for the goal too as it was miles off but for a massive sliced fail clearance from the defender. Don’t care how good he is in training he doesn’t do it in game and we can’t afford to not play our best, most productive players.
Our record signing as well, all huff and puff and no end product, really thought he would excel in the championship.
Where's the evidence for that? What has he done to warrant such praise, optimism and faith from Saints fans? He's been here for nearly 18 months, and what has he done? Nothing, apart from those goals against Liverpool in a dead rubber.
We did the 1 minute applause for Chris Nicholl, but I am surprised that they didn't put a picture on the screen, a lot of people may not have been aware of what it was about and I am sure the Club would have been aware, there was enough publicity about it on line?
In the first half he did show some of what he was capable of a couple of times, in the 2nd half he was invisible, no one passed to him because he never got in to a position to receive the ball, Che hiding behind his markers was also ineffective, we had no out ball.
