I have relatives who are infuriatingly negative about Sunderland. Everything's ****e and they'll not be swayed. Only winning everything every season would placate them and even then....

There's a big difference between that and 'I think we should be doing this better', or 'maybe we shouldn't flog the teenager to death'.

Well what a lovely Saturday morning sun is out 3 points in the bag and dried out and a good night's sleep. It really was a cracking performance and yes Cardiff were poor but I think we made them look poor with such a polished performance. The score could really of been 4 or 5 such was our dominance. It was great at the end of the game to see the players pushing Adil forward to take the applause of the fans something he really deserved. Will hopefully do his confidence the world of good. Midfield was totally dominant love watching Dan Neil make space for himself so easily. Absolutely quality if the lad could add more goals to his game he will be awesome. Shout out to Ekwah who did a lot of the dirty work yesterday and goes unseen at times. Ballard, Onien, and Hume solid and dependable. I wish Hemir had scored his chance to give him a big boost also same for Ba. Overall a quality display cracking pressing all over the park and some lovely free flowing football played on the ground. Final word to our fans most of who got soaked before and after the game in biblical rain storms. Watching people drying shirts and trousers in the toilets on hand dryers was hilarious. Backed the lads from the off and all had a cracking day out. Such a change from recent weeks. Looking forward to Monday to see if we can replicate that type of performance.

Got to be a certain for Monday now, you'd think. A little bit frustrating to think we've had him here all year and persisted with Roberts while he was going through a very poor run of forn.

A few were saying before this game that they’re not bothered if we sold Jobe and I’m not sure how I felt but it’s clear that the likes of of him, Rigg, AA and others are only going to get better and I really hope now we keep hold of them. This season has been a disappointment but there are games like yesterday when you can really see the potential in the side. Some more great entertainment this season please and look forward to next.

Cracking win, solid performance and some injured players back, can’t ask for more. A win on Monday would see us pushing back up the table and a positive end to the season. Really excited to see how Rigg will do for the rest of the season, he looks a real player. Another cracking thread RTB thanks again !

The result was everything yesterday and the fact there were a lot of good performances is a bonus, not to mention all the returnees. Cardiff were awful mind, which was nice for us, I feel like we never got beyond third gear but never needed to, a nice stress free match for a change.

In a strange sort of way maybe the team has learned a lot from the 6 defeats as opposed to a few wins and draws.
Each player will have been aware of mistakes and decisions which should not have been made and perhaps it’s better that they’ve happened when it doesn’t really matter in terms of promotion and relegation, neither of which we were likely to get this season.

Of course, this may all be ****e but I’m sure I’ve read that you learn more when things aren’t going well.

I've always maintained that I learnt more from my mistakes than from what I did right. I certainly didn't make the same mistake again. Hopefully that will be the case with these young lads.

Can I qualify that remark. I was talking about work. I still came very close to making variations of the same mistake when it came to young ladies. Or put it another way I was bloody useless. Still managed to pick up a good one though, definitely a keeper :emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl:

I keep seeing that but anywhere else on the oupitch it’s a standard free kick for that nudge. That said, the lad in front of him absolutely clouted him as he was falling too I think. Which is, in itself, a foul!
Soft maybe, but it’s still a foul

Brilliant 'match report' mate, great that everyone had a day to remember after the recent pointless travels ...

... you were spotted, at the end, by Mrs Smug but I doubt you saw her waving <laugh>

I think you're right mate, they're very young and clearly learning on the hoof.

I said before the game that the pressure was off but they really put a shift in which was good to see.

This can be our pre-season now to get injured players back, try a few changes in tactics and try to get some confidence into the likes of Hemir.

It must be difficult to be so young living in a foreign country with 40,000 strange people watching you.

I think Roberts and Evans will either start or finish on Monday ...

... whatever the team I think the atmosphere will be much better after yesterday.

Was watching Bristol C/Leicester early kick off yesterday and there was something similar where Winks shoulder barged BC player in the back and sent him to the ground, no penalty given. Absolutely absurd that the slightest of touches with a foot is a penalty but pushing someone in the back whilst they’re running full pelt isn’t.

Some of the passing forward was a joy to watch in itself. Balls that you would never think of playing whilst watching seemed to find space between the Cardiff players and reach their targets

There were at least a couple where a one touch poke of the little toe or gentle stroke would have sent someone who was ready down the wing ahead of the defender. Was frustrating, but maybe they are gradually getting the safe side possession passing back out of the mindset
