4 of those are loans and we can loan players next season as well. Just hopefully we can either get some of them back on loan again or find similar level players
Yep & the handball goal at Wolves but he still’s here & wasn’t replaced. In a weird way I like him (don’t why why!) but he’s very poor. Was only really good as Ings foil. Played quite well for the first 20mins today but pants thereafter.
We don’t actually play walking football very good. We’re pretty good in our third but thereafter we’re lost. RM has given us identity at the back but we’re nowhere going forward.
Yeah, I wouldn’t mind him staying either really. He’s done well and he’s a nice bloke, so I guess he deserves another chance in some ways. But the above comment about how solid Leeds look compared to us is completely true. In my opinion we have the squad right now to be untouchable in games at this level like Leeds. THB, Downes, Fraser, Brooks, etc. I just feel this squad has autos in them this season under the right coach and Martin has been missing the X factor this year to pull us through. But as you say, hopefully he’s learned a lot this season
I agree with most on here, and also have some reservations re RM. We might still go up though, you know (in the playoffs).
We can hope, but I really don’t see it. I don’t think we have the mentality to win the playoffs. We are too pedestrian and easy to play against. Someone will get in our faces and beat us when it matters, same thing has happened all season.
So what solutions do you have for the shortcomings you perceive? I'm sure SR would value your insight.
I'm sure SR don't give 2 ****s for my, or anyone else's insight. Most clever and capable owners in the world ever.
I'd be interested to hear you views on the way forward. Personally I'd like to see a far swifter transition from defence to attack. Players who have the ability don't seem to have the encouragement or self belief to take on a man, play an telling pass or take a shot. Which managerial mastermind who could put this to rights is beyond me. This from the benefit of several pre, during and post match beers.

Yeah they realised one of their major errors last year and bought us a striker. Then he remained injured and they just forgot about it in January.
Been a while since I posted, but here's my take. Today was frustrating. We should have won comfortably. But any other season, we'd be comfortably top 2. The fact that we're 4th, is, in a way, not a fair reflection on the club, the team or Martin with the season we've had. It's a little bit of a freak season in that respect, that quality at the top end of this league is so so high, much higher than it has been historically. I know you can only live in the moment, beat what's in front of you etc etc, but it's worth bearing in mind.
All this talk about how much money we’ll get from players leaving, is pointless unless it is spent well. Saints dont have a great record lately for spending well.Millions have been wasted on poor buys. Ipswich haven’t got where they are with the amount of money we have. It’s player choice and matching them to a successful strategy.
Seriously, not signing a striker was an absolute catastrophe. We should have had a backup in case Stewart’s injury was worse than we thought. We even had a chance to rectify it in Jan. absolutely bonkers from the club. That decision more than anything has cost us promotion. Stick a decent number 9 in this squad and we’d be up there with Leeds. Our “strikers” squander so many chances
I think I could be a big help at the next training session. I'd take the squad over to a goal and say "right lads, does anyone know what this is?"
Not only do they miss far too many chances, but (as I alluded to earlier) my view is that only one of them (Che) is capable of leading the line. Adam, for example, is far better out wide. Che might have had a nightmare in front of goal (again...), but once he went off we totally lost any sense of a focal point. First with Adam (who tried) and then with Mara (who was just anonymous - we basically went down to ten men). I said on here recently that Che is possibly our second most important player, after Flynn, on the basis that no-one else can do his job. And without him in the team, everything falls apart. Just as when we're without Flynn. And I say that as someone who has never rated Che since we first signed him, and who wanted us to sell Che back in summer 2022. It's crazy that we should be relying on him so much. Just as it was last season too.
