I bet people say this was an Ashworth pick.... if it had gone well it would've been Howe's.

What's he been doing though? Betting on games he was playing in... he's in serious trouble.

I think that's what Barton and Toney did.

It's worse if he's made obvious things occur in the matches - see the clown at no 3 in this list, told his mates he was going to get deliberately booked in a match and they put huge bets on him to do so:

Just to reiterate: these offences occurred before his current ban. They are also significantly fewer than Toney/Barton. As part of his punishment he was told he has to get treatment. I expect the FA to treat him the same as Toffolo and he’ll either get a concurrent ban (maybe even a shorter one and that will have concluded already) or a suspended punishment.

Well that would make sense, otherwise they're flogging a beaten dog, and pretty much ending his career.

Some big assumptions taking place... do we even know what he's done or hasn't?

I mean wtf! Surely the kid must have learnt his lesson by now.

All depends on the types of bets, for/against who and if he would have been influencing the games. If it's betting on league two matches for example I can't see him getting much in the way of a further ban tbh, maybe a suspended punishment like a 3-5 months ban suspended but enforceable on top of any further breaches incase he does it again, almost certainly he'll incur a further fine and some community outreach programme.

If he has been betting on himself or the team he could be in a lot more trouble. Don't think the FA can or will let it slide in that case.

Only positive is its around about 50 bets if the reports are to be believed so its not the 100's Toney and Barton got caught out on.

I think more than anything the club will struggle to trust Tonali moving forward, like they could think he’ll get sent off on purpose or booked etc.

Shame really I had high hopes.

It makes you wonder why the FA have waited over 5 months to charge him
when they supposedly had his phones from October - wtf have they been doing ?
making up some form of punishment ?

Best case he'll be fined another hefty sum, worst case will be another financial penalty for him coupled with a further ban running concurrently. Hardly ****ing world news or groundbreaking....meanwhile City still seem immune from being sanctioned for breaking 115 FFP rules whilst every other club takes a hit for them. The FA and PL are all the ****ing same!

Once again: these charges relate to being BEFORE his ban.
There is no charges for any bets since his ban. Suggests he HAS learnt his lesson.

Never thought Merson would side with Newcastle

Former England and Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson, who says he was a "compulsive gambler" during his career, called Tonali and Toney's bans a "disgrace".

"To give people 10-month bans for an addiction that is ravaging football, with sponsorships all over the shirts... They needed help and I don't think 'help' is giving them 10-month bans," he said.

Addiction isn't that simple...you learn your lesson, but keep doing it.

Let's hope he's just a crook rather than an addict.

Merson is sound it's just people get arsy when he tells fanbases thing they don't like hearing. It's impossible for people to not upset fanbases that are completely powerless to control their emotional decision making.

Not sure why you’re explaining addiction to me?

I know you’re just a blatant wum but it’s getting tiresome

Cantona gota 9 month ban and a reduced jail sentence for his violent and criminal assault on that fan.
Tonali gets a 10 months for an addiction where no crime was committed.
And the FA want to hit him with another.

IF he does get another 6 months then there is clearly some sort of an agenda.
