It should do. They signed Ballard, Hume, Cirkin, Roberts, Clarke…all who will return significant profit and be seen as successful. He’s adapted his approach since singing them and it’s gone south.
KLD might take advice but ultimately he holds the purse strings. If he says we need to be sustainable then there's nowt KS can do about it.
I'd like to think Speakman would then leave if he felt it unachievable, so he either agrees with it or he won't go against it and leaves himself open to criticism
Aye but if you want a manager who isn’t going to say ‘if we change this, or get one of these we’ll win more’ you’ll be looking for someone a bit ****
Maybe he thinks it is achievable - maybe he's actually delivering on his remit. We've all stayed in jobs where we didn't agree with everything the boss says. The idea of leaving himself open to criticism is the space you've given yourself to justify criticism. I have no problem with that and I suspect he doesn't either - he'd expect criticism of sporting performance from fans.
There's a massive difference between saying things behind closed doors and saying them in public though. A manager who says these things in public is a little disrespectful and unprofessional in my opinion (though the occasional slip or bit of frustration is human).
What’s he meant to say ‘I signed some absolute ****e’? Never going to happen, not should it. I’m not a fan of his political spin style by the way, among other things. I just think he would never do otherwise. They’re just being PR professionals. It’s modern life and equally not ****ting on his own staff in public is fair.
Spot on. Particularly the last bit. Think Speakman is a stubborn bluffer personally. The warning signs for me were early on when he said Dajaku could play as a striker ffs. Now saying Adil and Rusyn are experienced. Must think we're stupid. Hope he and the recruitment team get it right in the summer but I shan't be holding my breath tbh.
Aye that is true. Mowbray crossed the line really. I fully understand his frustration mind. I rant on as soon as I get to the ground about Burstow and Hemir cos I know the outcome must be impossible if the fans are having a go. But when you sound off to the media you’re buggered. Even Beale did it.
Criticism when constructive isn't a bad thing if it is taken on board. Your suggesting it's KLD'S way or no way
Watched this before. Love Quinny like, class bloke https://www.instagram.com/reel/C2zMxQGoxk-/?igsh=MThnOW9rMHducXFqMA== also pretended soap was a bar of gold and signed some ****e.
This is Speakmans first DOF role. No track record to bank on when things go off track. This may be an expected bump in the road. 5 year plan and all that. Time will tell. KLD won't be afraid to change things of her thinks it necessary.
That's always the way. There might be discussion or negotiation but at the very end the owner makes the decision and everyone else follows the instructions they've been given.
Why? Who gets to decide what the most important objective of it's it's not the owner of the business? Why is it the right decision for KLD to spend more on wages and make bigger losses?
Maybe to help his sporting director to achieve his targets. If KS's target is top 6 but the owner believes he can do that with a budget of 50p, then surely they agree on a common ground that compromises both sides of the argument
