This, apart from my favourite band I couldn't decide between the rest.

I'm not even a big fan of the White Stripes but this is just an awesome live performance.

Most music shops will do an electric guitar with an amp for around that price as like a beginner starter pack, but for just a guitar (from looking at my local music shop's website) you can get Fender Squire's for £91-145 with Ibanez guitars at £149.
If not there'll be plenty decent second hand ones for that price! I'm not living in the North East so I can't tell you any local shops but good online ones are gak.co.uk and playsomething.co.uk (playsomething is the local one to me, I did work experience at it but it's also good for online sales, they send to all over the country and they have the biggest music tuition centre in the country or something..according to the guy who owns it <laugh>)

Cheers pal! I might pop into Newcastle tomorrow morning and have a look around. I know a shop called Sounds Live that sells Guitars and other instruments so i'll probably go in there, i'd prefer a Fender though.

Something a bit different, brilliant music and a great story to boot....if you like strings and a big band.

I've got tickets to the live show in Dec 2012 at the O2. Will be the third time too. Awesome album though and I recommend a listen. <ok>

Squire, or Epiphone are the best beginner guitars going! Cheap, cheerful, and for the money you're paying sound great!

By faaaar, the best Instrument outlet going. Could spend hours in the York shop lol

My first guitar was a Yamaha Pacifica which was a very decent guitar (still is, I have still got it). It had an awesome paint job as well; translucent green so you could still see the grain of the wood.

    EDIT: Found picture of one.

Good guitars man, Yamaha haven't got the street cred but they're far more consistent than Squire and Epiphone etc.

I'm a bass player really though, got a 2007 American Fender Jazz and a custom made active Precision Jazz, solid walnut body and maple neck with pearl inlays. Proper stunner.

Next stop Rickenbacker 4003! You have to be mentally ill not to like the look of these...

That Rickenbacker is amazing, I do not really play the bass but would consider getting it just for it looks. Got a good old Strat now and in June I am getting a 62 Telecaster which I can't wait to get. I am also looking into saving up for a Martin 0-15 acoustic.

Been listening to these guys all night...its not surprising they have strong ties to The Mars Volta and the RX Bandits. Seeing them next week on Thursday's farewell tour.

I adore Rickbacker's! Problem with em, is that they take an age to be delivered, and are so darned expensive.

If im gonna shell out over a grand, I'd want the guitar straight away. Not have to wait a year!

I wanna get a Gibson ES 335 next. Just behind Telecaster as my favourite guitar

If anyone likes their Pet Shop Boysesque Electro Pop. Then I would STRONGLY recommend The Sound of Arrows! Their album, Voyage, is possibly the Album of The Year.
To be fair, even if you don't like PSB, give Sound of Arrows a listen. Truly an epic listen

Mornin lads, haven't been on in a while hope you're all doing well!
Just thought I'd contribute to the guitar topic as I've been playing for about 5 years now. I agree that the best guitar to start off with is probably a Fender Squire which you could get for around 150 quid at any good guitar shop.
As for an amp even though expensive buy a Marshall. It'll make it so much more enjoyable! Brilliant sound, top notch.

Another thing I'd like to mention would be the LAG Tramontane acoustic guitar, made in France strangely enough it has an absolute brilliant sound if you're into the Spanish sound or big power ballads.

Cheers for the replies lads, much appreciated! I've saw a nice Fender Squire that i'm going to go for, only £95 so it's a great price. Can't wait to get it and begin playing it! :D
