Clubs take a punt on players like Toney all the time. Most don't work out. We just did it with Minty.
When we sold him, he'd scored 4 goals in 24 league games in League One for Wigan, nothing to suggest what he became. His breakthrough season was after we sold him.
Possibly a case where Toney realised what he’d potentially lost and this concentrated his mind and he then put the graft in to succeed.
That's why they brought him to the club... then it's the managers that decide from there. Rafa had Rondon and didn't see anything special in Toney.
He also was in and around the 1st team... I know it hurts, but that fact is the scouts saw something in him amd the manager didn't unfortunately. Rafa had Rondon who was playing well and rafa missed one unfortunately.
True and yes but I’m still convinced there was something there. At the time. We were not overly abundant with good strikers. I guess some players get better with age.
Joselu is another nufc missed....that was the fans aswel though because they really hated on that lad.
He was in and around the first team the way loads of kids are from time to time. Allow the manager to have a look and decide if a loan is going to be beneficial. This happens to hundreds of thousand's of players every year at every age group. It's a gamble. Honestly think he's kicked on by gaining confidence by dropping the divisions.
I never said otherwise I said the scouts saw something and the manager didn't.. that's just what happened and one got away. Sometimes they don't have it and that's different.
If anything this is another example of the management not having the confidence in the younger players. How many players slip through because managers are selfish regarding their short term longevity. This is a major problem with the manager sack race. There is no long term plan when you could get sacked after 5 bad results.
So another two England games against good opponents and Southgate doesn’t get the results. It’s like a repetitive drum. Can I remind everyone who is in goal for Belgium. Recognise him?
