This is brilliant news for some of us.

"The dedicated channel will be provided at no extra charge to all Sky TV customers who take both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 or the HD pack of channels.

If like me you only have normal Sky with HD (no sports) and pay £10 a month for the HD stuff, you can watch F1.

Confirmed by the editors and stuff on here:

    http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12040/7332332/Sky-Sports-launches-F1-channel

I'm not gonna pay anything extra now, so I'm happy as larry about this.

Still disagree with the whole BBC not having it thing but it's awesome news for some of us.

Haggle SKY - You might get the HD pack free. (I've done it in the past).

I'm not paying anything extra. It's a relief, I was seriously considering forking out for sports.

Yeah the bad news is that it "will be provided at no extra charge to all Sky TV customers"

That presumably means that if you take Sky Sports through BT or Virgin you'll get to see ..... err .... the 50% of races on the BBC.

£10 a month. When you take it out you also get all the sky+ stuff too and the box and install crap is free so it's decent enough.

I was just about to cancel my sub as well...

Something that is 'only 120 a year' when it used to be free is not, by any stretch of the imagination, 'a great deal' for fans.

Samurai, if you watch F1 (a sport), how come you don't subscribe to Sky Sports?

No mate. I was true there. WestCoast,

I feel people here are blaming Sky when we should blame the Beeb as they have sold us out! Sky by all means are a business and they want money. 120 a year when we were all shocked at initial figures of 600 a year is not bad. Hence why it is a 'great deal for fans'

A user told me to **** off with my views in the other Sky thread, I hope you don't do the same though. I respect everyones opinion but I also have my own.

WestCoast and Eterna;, have you ever actually watched Sky Sports? Like anything in life you get what you pay for. If it's free, it'll be naff (BBC).
Look at what Sky have done with football. We now have the biggest league in the world. Look at what Sky have done with cricket. World class coverage.
Thank you Sir Rupert Murdoch for allowing us to watch F1. F1 in 3D? Maybe?

When was the TV license ever free? And last time I checked the BBC have recorded record numbers since they improved it far more than ITV ever did.

Here you are preaching patriotism and yet you are slagging off the most British thing we have next to fish and chips and you are in support of the biggest leach and manipulator of modern British history, the Murdoch empire.

Yeah! Let's look at the numbers of all those sports before and after they got involved, cricket fan base is now none existent, so is rugby, so is boxing, and football clubs are going bankrupt left right and center.

Thank you Rupert, for ****ing up Great Britain!

No fear of that. I never deliberately offend people with my comments and I go out of my way to make sure that my opinions are put forward in a respectful manner and, insofar as I can manage, eloquence.

My comment has nothing to do with who is to blame. I agree that for those people who are/were looking to pay Sky, £120 is better than £600. The point still remains though that we used to pay nothing (bar the license fee), so who cares how much sky charge? £120, £300, £600...all scenarios will result in F1 will become something only a minority will be able to view every race live. That is not something to be happy about.

SilverArrow, I have to respond to that. I respect your opinion but you are so so wrong. Sky are expensive yes, but their coverage of sport is world class. To deny that is lunacy. If you like sport generally, it's a no brainer, you have to get Sky Sports. If you like watching films, you have to get Sky Movies etc.
I can understand that if you like just one sport then Sky Sports may seem expensive compared to free for view. Sky Sports coverage of sport (if you've not seen it) is breathtaking and worth every penny. Sky: first to HD. Sky: first to 3D. Don't let politics or a dislike for the Murdoch empire get in the way of watching Sky. I defy anyone to pick out any sport Sky cover and not say it's world class. Sky will revolutionise F1.

The coverage may indeed be judged to be better/worse on Sky/BBC, that's entirely a matter of opinion. Yes I have watched Sky Sports before and it didn't change my life or amaze me. It wasn't bad or anything but it wasn't what I was watching for. Frankly, the important bit is what happens when the presenters stop talking and the drivers start racing and Sky/BBC have no control over what happens on the track. Therefore, whatever happens before and after the race is unimportant to me when compared with being able to watch the race. However, most of us will now have to wait until several hours after the event to experience that.

Sorry, but this is ****ing excellent, especially the last bit. FOM have hundreds of cameras filming every bit of the race and all the extra content they give us is a crappy 3 minute race edit with bad music. The unavailability of content is criminal, especially the removal of archive footage from YouTube, but if Sky can get hold of loads of exclusive interactive content that's great news.

On another note, for those blaming Sky/BBC/Murdoch for this, the only person to blame for all this is Ecclestone for pricing our public broadcaster out of carrying the coverage. It's the same reason countries like Belgium are being priced out of a grand prix.
