    Just found this on NUFC.COM.

    Virgin Money chief backs Magpies in stadium row

    The campaign by Newcastle United fans to keep the 119-year name of their St James’ Park ground has enlisted an unlikely new supporter - Jayne-Anne Gadhia, the boss of the club’s new sponsor.

    The Virgin Money chief executive last week unveiled a £747m takeover of Newcastle sponsor Northern Rock.

    The club’s stadium has been renamed the Sports Direct Arena by Mike Ashley, Newcastle United’s owner and founder of the sports retail chain, in preparation for a sale of the naming rights.

    In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Ms Gadhia says: “To be honest, I think it should be called St James’ Park.”

    Asked whether it might be renamed the Virgin Money Arena, she said: “I don’t think that would be right for Newcastle. St James’ Park is part of the heritage of Newcastle and it’s important to local people, so for me it should be called St James’ Park.”

    Northern Rock’s Newcastle sponsorship runs to the end of this season*. Ms Gadhia said she would be talking to Newcastle United about what Virgin Money might do after that.

    * Our interpretation of the recent announcement that Northern Rock cease to be our sponsor with immediate effect is that their branding will disappear in January 2012.

    You just know that the only 2 options are either the Virgin Money arena or SDA. If Virgin money dont take up the naming rights then you just know he will keep it as the Sports Direct Arena

    That sounds promising to get the stadium name put back to what it should be. Just hope Virgin don't just get the shirt sponser rights if that's the case.

    Despite all the Neanderthals on Radio Newcastle's Total Sport spouting their "Eee well the game moves on" nonsense, no company in their right mind would sponsor the name of the ground. The bad publicity would be enormous.

    I wouldn't be surprised if Mike Ashley has written into the contract that you will be charged £10m to change it to your company name or £50m to change it back to SJP.

    I wondered about this when Virgin bought Northern Rock out. Am I the only one who would love it if we had Virgin as a sponsor? I was disappointed when they pulled out of f1, innuendo was the only thing that team offered. :D
