That doesn’t change the fact it was a stupid decision to have Delap and Connolly as our only recognised strikers from August-January. Connolly can’t keep fit so one injury to Delap left us without any reliable options up front. Rosenior’s solution to that in January was to sign a 37-year-old striker who offers significantly less than Óscar and another young kid on loan that Rosenior doesn’t even fancy on the bench. Having just Óscar, Delap and Connolly would’ve been better than Delap, Connolly, Sharp and Ohio.
But from August-January neither of those players missed many games between them and scored about 15 goals. So was it mad? It was madder bringing in Sharp thinking he could make any sort of impact. You can blame Rosenior if you want but Tan/Acun have priors cheaping out on the striker position even though they kept claiming they'd spend most of the budget on it.
This is just ludicrous. Acun has given everything Rosenior has asked for and more. It was Rosenior’s decision to let Óscar leave and not get a replacement in time.
This argument is just nonsense, Oscar went in summer and Delap and Connolly did just fine up until Delap got injured on NYD (they were actually a massive improvement, and I didn't see anyone mention Oscar once). Surely the argument is that we didn't replace Delap effectively
You must have me on ignore then. We were very lucky to have Oscar, he should have cost us £15m and gone to a premier league club. I think it often gets underestimated just how big a coup he was for us to get.
I don't think it helps that we've been struggling in front of goal since LR joined us and it's showing no real signs of being solved and we have a player that scored 13 in a team with awful service and nowhere near the attacking talent we have now. Fair enough he went in summer as LR thought delap and Connolly were enough ( some us of thought it was a mistake, but I think that was more to do with only having 2 strikers as opposed to losing oscar ) but to get to Jan, see how poor we had been in front of goal, then lose delap for pretty much the rest of the season with the full window left, then see sharp ( his wages are pretty much the same as Oscar btw ) and Ohio come in when again we already had a proven guy in Oscar that could be used is just silly on LR/the clubs part. The whole goalscoring problem is what looks like will cost us the play offs ( if we miss out ) and LR has now had almost a full season and a half to solve it and it's not looking like he can on the evidence so far
