We had a GD of 6 on Dec 31st scoring 39, so no in the first half of wasn't really enough at all. It's been an issue now for way way way to long and LR/the club show no signs of solving it. A team that struggles for goals like us, really shouldn't be letting a 13 goal a season striker go out on loan. It was a mistake no matter how people try to down play it.
Sharp’s had plenty of chances in the box in the games he’s had and missed 3 sitters from what I can remember, 2 of which were about 4 yards out. I’m fairly certain Oscar wouldn’t have missed those but you seem to have it in for him so it is what it is.
What a strange argument this is becoming. So Billy Sharp isn't a good finisher now? Goodness me. I don't have it in for Oscar in the slightest. I loved him last season and regularly defended him on here. He is clearly a good player of a certain kind, as was Tetteh for that matter. But neither were deemed to be reliable enough or mobile enough to play in the kind of team we are now: high pressing and energetic all over the pitch, particularly on the wages they commanded. It just isn't realistic to keep insisting that he should be here without acknowledging that it would've reduced our budget to bring in the players who've improved us to the point that we're genuine playoff contenders. It's bizarre that not wanting to join the latest pile on is taken to mean I have it in for a former player.
In the first half of the season we were scoring far more than we have been lately and had four players well on course to match or beat Oscar's 13 goals over the season.
Clearly he isn’t, cos he’s missed chances my half blind neighbour could’ve scored. Best championship scorer there’s been? Without a doubt, now? Absolutely not. The wages him and Ohio have cost could’ve kept Oscar with us and he’d have scored a fair few goals. yeah you’re right, Oscar wasn’t mobile enough for us but Billy is it’s ok Rosenior does things wrong and you’re allowed to admit it.
How does Sharp and Ohio's wages for 6 months pay for Oscar for a full season? I bet we've been able pay Delap & Connolly's wages for the season for what we'd have been paying Oscar and that's a good very good trade It's also funny how the rhetoric is now that Oscar doesn't miss big chances when he absolutely did.
Just because we were scoring more then we have been lately doesn't mean we were scoring enough.... It was poor in the first half of the season, it's just even worse now.
God it's like you just enjoy having an endless argument. If this was Syd... We had four attackers on track to outscore Oscar in the first half of the season. If you want to focus endlessly on his 13 goals then you have to also accept that fact. Our attackers haven't kept up their scoring rate since then largely because the team as a whole has stopped scoring and creating. Blaming all of this entirely on the absence of a striker who was also absent when those other four attackers were scoring freely is a total red herring. We could be having a discussion about what the team might do to get back to scoring ways instead of this endless tit for tat, desperately trying to keep this ridiculous hypothetical debate going.
Oscar has a year left after this summer, in which the club expect to receive a 3m fee. What was the gd on Dec 31st '22 with Oscar in the team? ...and he'd scored 10 of his 13 by then, btw.
No, he went from Metz to Brazil. Might have been back to clear his locker, or a couple of sessions in the interim when deals were being finalised, but that's all.
