Lokilo has gone, Ohio and Sharp are short term loans, so why would selling Greaves potentially next summer be funding players who will be out of contract by then?

But if you do want to attempt to make that connection, then surely he'd be funding the likes of Carvalho, Pandur, Jaden, Morton, Delap etc by the same token?

I'd rather hope that Oscar was actually generating revenue for us in the form of 2x0.5 m loan fees, a 3m option and his wages are being covered.

Sharp is a 6 month contract, so not a huge liability.

Oh, and Oscar was injured most of 2023 - and nursing an ankle problem when he was playing for us.

He could have generated a hell of a lot more revenue for us if he'd stayed and scored goals to help take us up....

Which makes you wonder what the club knows and we don't.

As I've said before, Acun and Tan are all heavily involved with transfer policy, Liam does nowt without their say so and if they thought we were wasting an asset by moving him out then he'd still be here.

I'm struggling with this. People constantly berate City for signing 'injured players', but when we consciously get rid of a player in part because of his injury record and that player turns out to continue to struggle with injuries, we're still going to criticise them because he theoretically might have not got injured if he'd stayed? Bonkers. They absolutely can't win can they.

LR said he'd sort out the injury record and people on here have mocked him on several occasions for saying that, taking glee in bringing up his comments about robust players whenever someone has picked up the odd knock. Turns out our injury record has been bloody good this season, we're going into the run-in with one player injured in the entire squad. Haven't seen anyone admit they were wrong to scoff though. Instead people are going back the other way and now want a player with injury troubles.

So to summarise, we should've kept Oscar because he had a decent scoring record last season, and not doing so is a massive failure even though we've scored far more goals without him, are much higher in the table, multiple other players have scored at similar rates to his 13 last season, and on top of all of that he's been injured for most of this season anyway so in all likelihood wouldn't have been available for us. Very balanced and reasonable.

Delap at £8 million would still be great... I think we just have to build a team around him...

My opinion on Oscar FWIW was/is, that he was great at holding the ball up and bringing players forward, he scored bullets, he scored headers, he scored tap ins.. who wouldn't want that in their squad... Oh wait!!

And he loved being here... apparently didnt want to leave.,.apparently

i remember saying at that time
oscar offered absolutely nothing outside of the box, he was useless
now course he'd be a great option to have off the bench
but he costs a fortune in wages, and we've recouped a fair bit just from a loan fee

i can see why he's not here just due to financial reasons

He definitely didn't want to leave. He made that clear..... As you've just said, who wouldn't want that in your squad especially when the squad you have is really struggling to score enough goals to cement a play off spot. I think it was a gamble by the club that hasn't payed of unfortunately

Sorry but yes I accept his early goals were due to his ability to get touches in the box ‘ sort of ‘ poaching but as for holding the ball up sorry but for a guy his size he got knocked iff it or had nicked too many times for me . He wasn’t built for high pressing I think but then I accept he was doing it a lot on his own . I thought he went over like Connolly does trying to win fouls but didn’t learn that refs are not giving them . But
I think with this midfield and ability around the box he MAY have proved to be a real box scorer but now we’ll never know . Although some will know if we don’t get in the playoffs !

Oscar was not moved on due to his injury record, he missed 8 games last season due to injury ( hardly an injury prone season by any stretch ), he was moved on because LR didn't think he suited the way he wanted to set us up, which as the gaffer is his right to do so, just as us as fans have the right to question why and what could have been of we'd kept hold of a 13 goal a season striker.

As for scoring far more goals without him, we're on course to score 12 more this season as opposed to last if you just go on the basic goals per game calculation. Over a season, yes it's more, but it can hardly be classed as far more can it, especially when you see the squad we have this season compared to last.

Every team that's above us or that we're competing with for the last play off spot has at least one ( some more then one ) player that's scored more goals then anyone in our squad this season. We had a player who has proved he can score 13 a season in the championship, we thought we didn't need him and it's looking like a poor decision how ever much certain people try to say otherwise.

    Hopefully we learn from it

*Edit* sorry it's 14 more this season

We're just playing fantasy football now and assuming Oscar would have got another 13 goals this season
as well as all the goals other players have scored

No, he may have scored 0. But to have him as a option would have made us a much stronger squad with better options then what moving him on left us with imo.

I said I thought it was a mistake at the time as I still believe it now.
