Proven experienced championship level players in their day. Gates ex international. Just what many say we are crying out for now. Mind you Gates was a cracking player with incredibly collapsible legs in the penalty box.

 

Very clever player, Marco missed him, I did hear at the time we were replacing him with Paul Walsh or Peter Beardsley as a feed for Marco, but it never happened

 

Sad to say...but,looking back now,it's the thing I remember about him the most,which is totally unfair on him. He had a mastery of being able to take both legs off the floor,whilst standing completely still, and land face down.

 

I cant remember where I read this but apparently he told Marco, when I get the ball all I want to see is your backside sprinting ahead of me, I will get the ball to you
