We moan constantly on here about the negativity of the Mail and Humberside about City, yet our own fans choose to treat an integral part of our two greatest seasons in our history like this. I suppose you get what you deserve really.
I think most people are just trying to apply a bit of objectivity. Just because somebody played for us and the team did well doesn't automatically make them an amazing player. No-one here is talking about Marney in a Bullardesque 'he treated the club like ****' way - they're just highlighting the limit of his talents and his career before and after us has also highlighted that. As with pretty much any ex-player (so long as they tried) I'm very greatful for the contribution Marney gave to our club but it doesn't mean I will only ever say positive things about him. He couldn't shoot for ****, wasn't great in the tackle, often put passes astray and I can't remember him ever heading a ball, but his saving grace was that he worked hard and put in maximum effort which helped cover up some of what he lacked in other areas meaning he could 'do a job' for us, especially at Championship level.
I've never really had a problem with Marney (although I never met him). I never thought he was terrible, but I just felt that he did not live up to all of the hype about him when we signed him (but that's hardly his fault).
Well put, players get praised and players ger criticised, it's part of the game, no matter how good they are or what they achieved in the past. As with Brownie, I will always appreciate the work they did for the club and bringing us top flight football, but that shoudn't cloud the fact that they had their faults.
You should have rammed an olive up each one of his nostrils, the ignorant arse wipe. One black and one green, just to prove you're not racist. I detest people who do this sort of thing. A bit O/T but I heard a Johnny Depp interview once and he basically said just because you're famous doesn't give you the right to act like an arse hole. I've heard quite a few stories like this about Marney, the no mark needs a reality check and a swift kick in the plums. Respect works both ways.
Completely OT, but Depp is meant to be an absolute top bloke. I work with someone whose mate worked with him on a film and he said he treated everyone - tea boy to fellow stars - exactly the same and one night he randomly invited said guy (who was a minion) into his trailer and they played console games all night while drinking beer.
He came across like that in this interview, it was with Jo Whiley. She's had loads of E Mails from fans of Depp who said he was an absolute gent. It's apparently commonplace for him stay an sign autographs and have his picture taken for literally hours after he has finished filming. Johnny Vegas also tells a story of when he invited the full cast and crew to go on the piss in St Helens and only Depp turned up . Don't know what the film or production could have been though. Marney could learn a lesson but then again he probably wouldn't give a flying ****.
There can't be many times Dean Marney's been compared to Johnny Depp. He came across brilliantly on life's too short (which is ****ing funny btw). Depp, not Marney of course.
..always thought he was a weak link - just because he was in a successful side does not make him a decent player.. in fact i'm being kind when i say 'weak link'.. he was garbage - his only strength seemed to be that he was super fit.. unfortunately his inability to pass, tackle, position himself correctly, or make the right decision when in possession or defensively rendered him pretty useless the majority of the time - the more i think about it the more the memories come flooding back of how absurdly frustrating he was to watch. Give me a Tom Cairney.. who can pass a football, thus doesn't need to run about like a mad man to get noticed over Dean Marney any day.
NOR I. Nor shall i forget what he said when he left and signed for Burnley. He has had his welcome back last season. Now he is just a bench warmer....i wonder why.?
Fans treated Dean Marney badly? Not so I ever heard. Richard Garcia got treated far worse last season. He did OK for us but no more. Was more vital than some but not as vital as plenty of others. I'll remember him as someone who took a good corner, a crap free-kick and didn't score as often as he should've done.
Richard Garcia is a classy guy off the pitch. Dean Marney has non either way. Just a rude headless chciken. Ive alot of time for Garcia and the work he has done with Stewart has been rewarded by the club with a new contract. Garcia more than deserves a new deal.
This thread hasn't gone well for poor old Dean has it? The bugger will probably score against us tomorrow now.
