What constitutes a local fan though? I grew up in a mixed area and went to most home games in my teens. Life has meant I've had to move away from the area and get to far fewer games. The idea that I've forgotten the rivalry is ridiculous. In fact, I'd say that moving away makes you feel it more keenly. I just think getting upset about some signs is pathetic.
I think it affects people and lessons their sense of reality. A lad I was with yesterday won't use his Newcastle postcode, say the word or call the airport by its name. I like the NE and enjoy going to Newcastle as I did when me Mam took us as kids once a year. I used to love the derbys and saw 5 of the six in a row ... ... believe me, my passion in the derbys is second to none. For the di Canio 3-0 I left Mrs Smug alone in Italy when someone sprung me a ticket
I think the point was that if you lived out side the area at least you wouldn't have to face a handful of piss taking Mags at work. I think anyone living in Tyne and wear works with Mags and vice versa
To be fair I was old school home away thorougout late 70’s and through the 80’s. When I moved away, the less it hurt after a while. Back home now and the intensity is there, maybe that’s just me, but let’s be fair here, nobody should speak about others personal feelings, how they think, how they decide, because that’s why it’s personal.
Yeah that's exactly my point. From the area , you get it. If not , you get it less. The hatred for the mags that is.
I’m quite the opposite unpopular as it is. If we can paint a bar and rip off a load of thick arsed mag Uber fans then spend it on us getting better players and paint it back the day after, I think go for it, all the better Just to add I grew up in the area so that’s a load of ****e
I’d like a new head coach after the season finishes please. Just thought I’d get the thread back on track…
So being from the area, I can say that I understand the hatred for the Mags and that has no bearing on my opinion about the signs. Quod Erat Demonstrandum
You sods. Came in from dog walk, grabbed a cuppa and logged on. Saw loads of new pages on this thread and thought something was happening re a new coach. Only to find it was this old argument again.
We don't just need a new head coach imo if we are to kick on upwards. We need a new structure and Speakman, Dodds and Proctor should not be part of it at 1st team level. I would definitely be thinking of going for solskjaer or Robins in the new set up.
take away the fans who live out the area of sunderland, and the fan base would take a massive hit, people who live in south tyneside area probably get a load more **** from the mags then people who live in sunderland
Lived in a County Durham pit village my whole life and my biggest passion is SAFC, love the club. Very few instances I have been disgusted and raging about the club, the mags fixture this season is one of them. I have grew up with the majority of people in my area supporting the mags, nearly all my closest mates are mags. I’d assume that people living outside of Sunderland have to deal with mags more than those living in Sunderland. Sorry like but it’s just nonsense to say people who live in Sunderland are more affected by the BCB incident than supporters like myself.
But you're from the north east. You'll get it. That's my point. Youll see the tribal aspect of the fixture and what it means to live it every day.
