I think Hoilett is really good, but he plays as a midfielder where we have abundant talent. It's the striker dept we're short in.
Without a doubt. Damiao would be a welcomed addition along with a permanent deal for Ade. That way we'll stick to the 4-5-1 in the league and then depending on how Damiao adapts/ impresses (if he joined that is) would determine which two would play in Europe/ FA and be the main back up in the league.
Harry has dismissed the link between Spurs and Hoilett according to SSN. Hoilett Probably means he's already made a bid and Hoilett just needs to sign on the dotted line!
He's a left winger, which puts him in the pecking order alongside Bale and Pienaar - but isn't he also capable of playing up front? If so, that's putting him behind VDV in the pecking order, playing off Ade. We've got a few utility midfielders - Kranjcar, Dos Santos, Pienaar - so presumably one will have to make way.
Cheers for the link Lotak, not disappointed about it though really. As I said earlier, I'd welcome him but at the moment, he's not better than a current 1st teamer. I think to push on now, we should only look for players that would come straight into the team, that way the current first teamers will then be the direct competition for the place, thus creating a better and stronger squad. For me players like Pav, Pienaar, Gio and Bentley, Jenas and perhaps Khumalo (when all back from loan of course, little harsh on Khumalo but he's not better than our current CB's and we'll have Caulker back next season too) need to be replaced with players that will stake a first team place and not just be a squad/ cup player. Our first team has fantastic potential, to improve on that we need star quality, not decent/ good back ups.
Agreed. We definitely need a goal poacher, someone that is an improvement on Defoe and possibly a good back up striker. Only other position we may need back up for would be LB / RB. As far as I know, Benny is our only good left back and Walker is our only good right back. Charlie is more or less hopeless! I don't like him much and I prefer Kaboul playing in CB than at full back. He doesn't seem to be agile enough to play full back.
Yeah I'd like Damiao, though I think he may be out of our price range now. LB Rose hasn't looked too bad but he'll never oust Benny from the position, I rate him as one of the best in Europe in his role. I think Charlie is pretty good to be honest, he can also play CB which makes him handy too, it's just in this day and age, the full back role is becomming increasingly reliant on speed - something Charlie is definitely not blessed with , defensively he's very good I think. We'll have Naughton back (who's liked pretty good at Norwich) next season so that'll add competition but I doubt Naughton will want to play second fiddle to a guy who was once his back up at Sheff Utd and may look to move on. For me a top striker will be needed. Perhaps a keeper in the near future too, Brad's looked great but time will eventually catch up, plus Gomes will be gone in Jan I reckon and Carlo isn't far off Friedel's age so I think a young upcomming keeper would be good, there's a keeper in Germany called Marc-Andre ter Stegen who's been getting good reviews, perhaps buying him but letting him stay in Germany until Brad retires would be a good idea.
Naughton can play as either left back or right back, which will come in useful for him (and the team) like Rose's emergence as a utility left back I don't reckon the Leandro deal is dead, but Internacional have certainly been playing dirty in their attempts to boost the price, or even start a transfer auction. It's not the first time it's happened to us (see also: Diego, Arshavin), but it is bloody tiresome. As for goalkeepers, we've had some weird luck with that one: Eldin Jakupovic joined the first team to offer him a contract when he was a free agent, whilst we can't sign Zeljko Brkic until he completes his loan at Siena at the end of the season. If we were to sign someone who could be keeper for a few years, Tim Krul could be a good solution, whilst if PSG don't clean up this season there's a good chance of signing Salvatore Sirigu as they seek to balance the books. Ali Ahamada of Toulouse could be another option.
Hoilett would be a great signing as he can play on both wings and in the centre.Hoilett would also be useful if Benny got injured as Bale could drop back to LB with Hoilett on the left wing. I would go for R.Soldado as a striker if we do need one.He is scoring at will atm and i have always been a big fan. Also Valencia nearly always have to sell because of there neverending money crisis.
Hoilett would be a good replacement for Dos Santos in January. He looks like an extremely dangerous talent, to me. I've mainly seem him playing on the left though, so I'm not sure how good he is in other roles. Paying £9m would seem excessive, given his contract situation, but we'd still have to pay for him in the summer anyway, if I remember correctly, as he's under 23. If we could offload our Mexican enigma and replace him with the Blackburn man for a similar fee, then I'd definitely take that.
Uh oh, that's a very Chelsea/City attitude towards transfers. Anyway, whose got a burlap sack in case we have to go to the backup plan to sign Gary Cahill?
