Sounds like Guthrie might be out too from that article.

Why use 'The Frenchman' to describe Ben Arfa and then use 'The Londoner' to mention Pardew?

Surely they can just use their names...

Phil Dowd is also out meaning Mike Jones will take charge. Can't decide whether thats good or bad.

So true, it's some sort of unspoken rule of journalism that you have to refer to people by their nationality or job title every so often else people will get bored and set fire to their newspapers.

Guthrie had his best game of last season against Man U injured, so I'm 50/50 on him.

Tricky, Uniteds weakness in their defence but they are very strong in attack so we could have done with Tiote. Guthrie is playing well and we may be able to get at them. I forsee chances at both ends, just like last week, will just depend if we can be more clinical.

I like Guthrie, and you're right he played great against Man Utd last season. If he's fully fit I'd have him in the team right away but since he hasn't trained all week and apparently looks knackered I'm not all that keen on the idea.

Edit - That made no sense; what I mean is that he's tired and worn out as opposed to carrying a slight injury, so I'd not be so sure.

I get what you mean, I can see Gosling getting his first start for us tomorrow, hopefully Cabaye can keep him disciplined.

Actually, didn't someone say Santon can play there in Subbuteo? He needs minutes mind, shame he didn't come on for Krul against City.

i would risk guthrie. at least tiote should be back from chelsea, so cabaye and tiote will play (hopefully!).

Its a game we can get something out of but need some solid defense in midfield

(this thread may need merging with the formation porn one!!)

As the week has progressed I am getting less and less confident about getting anything from this.

oh i'm not confident! but it's still a game that we have a reasonable chance of getting something out of.

its a battle of head vs heart at the moment!

"Ah tits!" is the statement I'd use here. Could really have done with Tiote for this match. Dunno if Gosling is up to it really. Hope at least Guthrie can come in and play.

    Sure, it's Man Utd.
Yes, they are a good team.
Fine, they have a historical record of beating us at Old Trafford.

But they are only men, just like us.
They have no 'super powers', just like us.
They still have to use a toilet, just like us.

Fear not for they can be beaten, just like us.

Not good, not good at all. I hope we don't play Smith if Guthrie's out too. Can Abeid not play there?
