... incredible support as usual. We drove down and poor Steve Nattrass, the driver, had a migraine that lasted the whole day. He shouldn't have even gone but people would've made the game on life support in those days. We had supporters all round the ground but were lucky to go through. After the game the Watford lads tried to have a go but we scattered them and took over their pub ... ... Ha'way the Lads!
I see they tarmaced the goalmouths and the centre circle to make the pitch resemble the rest of Watford.
Was this the ground where you had to walk through the allotments to reach the away end? Anyway, I randomly met 2 mates there, one in the scrum to get in, and one we spotted inside, 6ft 4 with a cap with a turd on the peak, and "****head' written on it. Can't remember much of the game.
Wrong year it was 1985 ! we beat Spurs away in the 5th round then Chelsea home and away i should know i was there and the final. Terrible we lost to Norwich in the final we beat them 3-1 the previous week
I think we went to every game in that cup run and the games up to the final will live long in my memory ... ... the final, as you say, was a real let down despite, as usual, incredible support. I remember the fantastic noise, from the Sunderland end, as Norwich trooped up to lift the cup
And the best part about that day was it was Standing! I think it was nearly 100k attendance and I always remember the steps seemed quite steep. Just checked and it was 100k attendance. That will be the one and only time I can ever say I've been in a crowd that big!
I haven’t as well marra just remember being there and seeing the highlights later and remembering how many extra we had in their end,and if I remember correctly they was a stat at the time about we got the record for official largest allocation Wembley has had, but was beaten later by Northampton of all clubs or did i dream this
Could be wrong marra, just seem to remember them daft stats at the time, don’t know if we got out allocation officially for their end but we definitely had a massive following in that end of the stadium
All my life I've thought my first away game was 1986 away to Brighton at Goldstone ground. I forgot about the MCF!
I got in the ground with 4 cans of double maxim down front of jacket. Got patted down but only on sides. Remember half time was standing above Watford fans having a bit crack on. One started calling us scabs so I stotted a can off his head.
If I remember there was a fence between us otherwise they'd have STFU ... ... we had quite a few in their section but we didn't realise until after the game. They were the only ones left and joined in with our songs.
