Thatcher, for closing down the mines that were making **** all money and for telling Sands and his "comrades" to GTF.(The Falklands goes without saying!)
If they hadn't closed down the mines though we would not have had "The Comic Strip Presents Strike" Good enough reason I would say. "Strike, Arthur, Strike".
Blair - things really could only get better, not much more the Tories could have done to feck up the country any more than they had. First term was great but he is only ever going to be remembered for the Iraq war and handing over power to that doofus Brown. Heath was very progressive for his time and often out of sorts with his party but taking us into Europe and the power strikes will be his legacy for all the wrong reasons. Not dealing with the unions gave birth to the destruction of socialism by Whore of Bablyon in 1979. Thatcher - Falklands? There was intelligence months before the invasion that she chose to ignore. Allowing us to go to war deflected everyone's minds from the first of the Tory recessions in the 80's. John Major - these peas are nice!!!!!!!!
Blair leading the way so far??? A couple of people mentioned because he "brought peace to Ulster", I thought that was John Major.
When I was growing up, my dad was in the police and as such he pro-Tory and Thatcher. So I don't have the negative view of her that many do on here and elsewhere. I'm not sure who'd I'd pick off the list though.
Were the mines not being subsidised stereo, surely there comes a point when subsidising isn't worth it and decisions have to be made, but no doubt you will know better?
Some were, some weren't. Is the nuclear industry subsidised monaco? Maybe we should close that down, throw thousands of people on the scrapheap and destroy whole communities at the same time purely in the name of political inexpediency?
I am not going to get into an argument about it or we will be here all day, I was merely making the point that most of the mines were losing money, hence they were being subsidised. Econimies can't grow if you have to chuck the money back into failing industries, eventually you have to say enough is enough and that is what she did. Did everybody like it? Of course not, but the decision had to be made, so save your arguments with your mate Toby instead.
