That's incorrect. Pickford debuted for Darlington on 21st jan 2012 at the age of 17, that was in the Conference Premier, what is now the Vanarama National League ie the Conference. Matty Young is playing Conference North football, a division below.
Watched some of the triantis clips for hibs last night, while scouting another player, very impressed. He looked natural sitting in front of the defence, he even started to push forward more in the 2nd half. Covered the space in front of the defence well and was his usual aggressive self in duels. Was good in possession, what i liked was he was always scanning around him before receiving a pass - key for CMs to do this His stats were good: 45 out of 50 passes successful, 1 in 3 of these was a forward pass (his 5 misplaced passes were all when playing forward but still completed 64% of forward passes) Complete all 8 of his longer passes Won 67% of his duels Won 60% of his aerial duels Had 4 interceptions Had 12 ball recoveries - most were in his own half Very impressive stats and the clips i watched backed up his performance
Very interesting mate. Maybe that's the role have him in mind for? As a side note is there anything in loan agreements about where a player should be played? Is it possible we have looked for a club to play him in this position to develop where the club thinks he will play?
So I was right then? I never said it was his first loan, I said he was playing at that level when he was older than Matty Young.
Pickford was playing at Conference level with Darlington at 17. The implication of your argument was that Matty Young was ahead of Pickford in terms of his development, that is incorrect as Matty Young is 17 right now and is playing BELOW Conference level.
Very impressive as you say, in particular the number of forward passes he's clearly good at them and not interested in playing safe sideways passes. Depending on their needs I'd rather see him get more games there than at CB as we need a competent DM more for me.
It wasn’t, it was that he’s 17 and there’s only a league between the levels they were at the same age, and that Pickford was still playing at that level 2 years later.
This is just weird. At 17 Young is playing in the 6th tier. At 17 Pickford was playing in the 5th tier. Young is behind Pickford by those metrics, what happens in the future is anyones guess. Take the L.
Has Matty Young extended his loan til the end of the season with Darlington? Other than that we've got Dan Cameron and Ben Metcalfe as goalkeepers in our u18 set-up, presumably those will step up.
Mate just messaged me saying triantis was really good again for hibs today as cdm Said livi were shocking but triantis was really solid in CM

Matty joined us before we played at South Shields, and since then has played nine times for us, keeping three clean sheets as we have won seven out of those nine games and climbed the table. Darlington manager Steve Watson said "We are delighted that Matty is staying until the end of the season, he has put in some very good performances and proved why he is highly rated by Sunderland. "It's a testament to the club, to his fellow players and to the fans that he wants to stay until the end of the season." Everyone at Darlington FC is delighted that Matty is staying until the end of the season, and we would also like to thank Sunderland for loaning him to us. Matty will be missing for this Saturday's game at Rushall, though, because he is away on England Under 18 duty for games against Czechia, Germany and Netherlands in Spain.
