Indeed, recently went to Tenerife and witnessed this. Whole families of very large people on them.

You have a point on the vegetable side of things, potatoes you can generally pick up cheap, along with carrots and other stuff such as parsnips etc, so yeah, you would be right on that point. I could probably get all three of those veg at a 1kg per bag for no more than about £2.50 for the lot, maybe as low as £2.

I was thinking more from the fresh fruit side of things..

I'd say a punnet of grapes is nigh on £2...the more you buy the cheaper they are, so let's say £1.50 a punnet, I could demolish a punnet of grapes on my own, but then I'm a pig, doubt they would go far for a family of four though over say a week. Pears anything from £1 - £2 for four. Most fruit is going to be over a quid. Probably get a fair few apples cheap. Srawberries £2 a punnet. No idea the price of bananas, don't eat them as they cause me an allergy reaction.

It soon adds up though. especially if you are looking for your five a day over the course of a week for four.. Although I suppose as I highlighted with the couple in the supermarket, if people stopped buying crisps, sweets and cakes, which are roughly around the same prices then yeah you could substitute them for fruit, it's convincing people to do so, but Sucky tells me thousands are going to foodbanks.

Don't know what you mean by poncey healthy eating?

    Had to google that <laugh>

Nah don't buy any poncey stuff, buying deglet nour dates is as extreme as I get, those ones your mum always had at Christmas with the little forks, only you don't get the fork anymore.

Although I do buy Chia and Flax seeds, but I can assure everyone that is not out of choice lol, I'd rather be eating a fry up.

Anyway back on to todays food and drink, the hardest thing I would find fasting is not drinking, I have the same probs before an Op where you can't drink x amount of hours before surgery, I get dehydrated then the nurses can't get a line in.

So it's about 12.30pm now, 1.5 ltres of water and two cups of coffee (no sugar). To eat, only one slice of thick wholemeal toast - not sure if I will last until around teatime before eating, see how it goes, can always have a large pear if theres a tipping point. .

Prawn salad for tea tonight, also some fresh cooked chicken that needs using up. try to keep the fruit generally for the evening, when I get the munchies.

In Florida a number of years ago, I came across wheelchairs that were 1and a half times bigger than I’d seen before.
Not sure what park I was in but, whilst waiting for my kids who were on a ride, I witnessed this huge fella pushing his huge misses up a slight hill and out of site. 5 minutes later she was pushing him past me in the same oversized wheelchair!! <laugh>

I could probably go throughout the day with no food, If I really wanted to....i'd be an irritable ****, but I could do it.
No drink though, I cant, I need my tea and my coke Zero to get me through the day.

    Coke Zero! :emoticon-0145-shake

I changed from tea to coffee and managed to get rid of sugar completely, use to have two in every cup.

I started out reducing it to one teaspoon, but after months of fooking about, I just binned sugar off completely from drinks. no sweetners either.

Same, used to have 2 sugars in tea and got it down to zero.

That would be me, don't fook about with half measures, if I'm going to drink Coke it will be full fat.

As I understand it all these sweetners they chuck in zero aren't any good for you either, although they can be very difficult to avoid because they even chuck them in yogurts - so something could say 0% fat and sugars, but could still have sweetners in it.

I'm always going to have full fat coke in my JD.

If this link works from last year, it explains what a minefield it is.... https://www.independent.co.uk/news/fizzy-drinks-without-aspartame-uk-b2375204.html

These diet drinks do contain aspartame:
    • Diet Coke
    • Coke Zero
    • Pepsi Max
    • Fanta Zero
    • Dr Pepper Zero
    • IRN-BRU Xtra Sugar Free
    • 7Up Zero Sugar.
Note: This article was updated on 11 July 2023 to reflect that Red Bull Sugar Free does not contain aspartame.

I got through to teatime just about with the help of a large pear and some cherry yogurt. Don't know how Spurly does it! I'm still pleased with myself though. Will be grapes this evening, Sweet Globe from South Africa, one of my favourites.

I rarely drink tea, usually coffee. Always just pop a squeeze of honey in mine. Sugar is rank, honey is quite good for you. No brainer. Not ate well today. Sausage, hash brown and onions in brioche buns for brekkie. Cheeseburgers and onion rings for dinner. Cottage pie and chips for tea. Sitting having some strawberry cheesecake now. I do normally eat quite healthy. Just not today.

I've never tried putting coke in my tea! :bandit:

I drink mainly coffee during the day. Black, no sugar. Occasionally tea, black no sugar. I will admit to the occasional Diet Dr. Pepper though. I know it's not healthy, so don't have it all that often. Has to be diet though, don't like the regular stuff as much for some reason.

Just back from France, ate like a king every day, and somehow managed to lose weight. Johnny Frog knows how to eat - spend all day discussing food, planning what to eat, preparing it; then eat small portions of great procuce, and do it slowly. Seems to work.

Loads of rich fatty food too - my favourite dish was rillons, pieces of pork belly marinated in goose fat and sloooow roasted. ****ing hell.

La illaha ill'allah Spurly old chap.
